Un grido d’allarme, di richiamo. Contemporaneamente i due uccelli cominciano a cascare a peso morto attirati dalla forza di gravità.
Uno dei due ha preso con gli artigli l’altro. Non potendo più volare si stanno lasciando cadere. La spinta verso il suolo è densa di souspance, il nostro respiro rimane sospeso in un domanda esistenziale. Dove?
I due eroi del vento continuano a cadere, sembra di entrare in un film, i colori si accendono, lo schermo si appiattisce. L’ingrandimento sui due volatili mostra una palla marrone scuro in caduta libera.
L’accelerazione gravitazionale gli spinge sempre più veloci verso il suolo.
Due secondi si estendono e non danno il tempo di provare paura o timore per la loro vita. Il tempo è troppo breve per condensarsi in sentimenti di apprensione.
Mancano appena dieci metri al suolo, nove, otto, sette, sei, cinque e poi la magia. Una bacchetta magica tocca il meteorite e lo divide di nuovo in due. L’uccello lascia la presa e libera l’altro dalla morsa dell’artiglio. Immediatamente, sempre in caduta libera, entrambi aprono le ali e cominciano a deviare dalla rotta di collisione con il suolo. Uno a destra e l’altro a sinistra incurvano sempre più la linea retta che li sta conducendo verso il prato. Riescono a deviare la rotta di oltre novanta gradi verso il cielo.
Le loro zampe sfiorano il prato carezzando violentemente i fili d’erba, che per due lunghi secondi hanno temuto di rimanere schiacciati.
Mentre il becco dei due uccelli è sempre più rivolto verso il cielo e verso l’orizzonte, il nostro sguardo inquadra subitaneo due piume che stanno planando verso il suolo. Ondeggiando e girando su se stesse stanno cascando come foglie morte. Il suolo questa volta attrae verso di sé con meno avidità. Candide e silenziose si posano vellutate sul vialetto asfaltato che taglia il prato in obliquo.
Davanti a noi il paesaggio riprende vita. Le montagne innevate del gruppo del Monte Bianco riprendono colore dietro ai mastodontici alberi del lungo lago. Tutto intorno ricomincia a esistere e subito una sensazione di gratitudine si apre dentro di me. Per qualche minuto,

A cry of alarm, a call. At the same time, the two birds began to fall, drawn together by the force of gravity.
One has caught the other in its talons. No longer able to fly, they let themselves fall. The push towards the ground is dense with souspance, our breath remains suspended in an existential question. Where to?
The two heroes of the wind continue to fall, we seem to enter a film, the colours brighten, the screen flattens. The enlargement of the two birds shows a dark brown ball in free fall.
Gravitational acceleration pushes them faster and faster towards the ground.
Two seconds pass, leaving no time for fear or anxiety. The time is too short to condense into feelings of anxiety.
Just ten metres to the ground, nine, eight, seven, six, five, and then the magic. A magic wand touches the meteorite and splits it in two. The bird releases its grip and frees the other from the claw's grasp. Immediately, still in free fall, both open their wings and begin to deviate from their collision course with the ground. One to the right and the other to the left, bending the straight line that led them to the meadow. They managed to turn more than ninety degrees towards the sky.
Their legs grazed the meadow, fiercely caressing the blades of grass which, for two long seconds, they feared would be crushed.
As the beaks of the two birds turned more and more towards the sky and the horizon, we suddenly saw two feathers gliding towards the ground. Swaying and turning, they fall like dead leaves. This time the ground beckons with less greed. Snow-white and silent, they sit velvety on the tarmac road that crosses the meadow at an angle.
Ahead of us, the landscape comes alive again. Behind the mammoth trees of the long lake, the snow-capped peaks of the Mont Blanc range regain their colour. Everything around us begins to exist again, and I immediately feel a sense of gratitude. For a few minutes,

For two pages the same song, but in two different versions. Here more in nature, immersed to give a deeper meaning to this page that is one of the most important in the book. A page that might push you to look a little deeper into yourself. A key to what for us humans on this planet, in this universe, remains pir always a big question. What is death? What is life? Two questions in one, like two hawks that meet for a few moments, tangle, become one and then split again. And what remains? Two feathers on the ground. The eyes cannot see anything else, why? Perhaps because experiencing this is all that matters. And to live death to the full, after having lived one's life to the full. Two that don't seem like two. My mother and I are about to go through our final days together, me convinced that she would be reborn and my mother convinced that she would never die. The two might seem different, when in fact they are the exact same thing seen from two different, opposite perspectives.

Due che non sembrano due. Io e mia madre ci accingiamo a percorrere insieme gli ultimi giorni, io convinto che sarebbe rinata e mia madre convinta che non sarebbe mai morta. Le due cose potrebbero sembrare diverse, mentre invece sono la stessa identica cosa vista da due prospettive diverse, opposte.
