And here I am, ready as every week, to write about the new theme suggested by the good @mypathtofire for Ecency.
I didn't quite understand what is meant today with the HiveBloPoMo suggestion, translation problems he he.
I imagined that the prompt, translated into my language, meant to devote myself to a topic of my choice for today, so I will take advantage of the weekly occasion of Ecency.
I hope I wasn't wrong, in any case the meaning of the challenge is to publish once a day for thirty days and I'm doing this.
Well, let's get started!
Today we talk about food and, I confess, I really found myself in trouble.
What you see in the photo on the cover is a plate of appetizers that we ate at dinner yesterday to celebrate my birthday; I love fish and in general it's one of my favorite foods but I can't put it on the first step of the podium.
I thought a lot about what could win, lasagna, baked rice, meatballs, hamburgers, broth... in short, the things I love to eat are so many!
In the end I opted for a very simple dish which I adore but which also has sentimental value as it is linked to so many memories and sensations.
So my favorite dish is…
Drum roll and a few seconds of waiting to create suspense...
Schnitzel and fries!
This will seem trivial as an answer and honestly if I had been asked for my all time favorite dish I probably would have said something different but since we are talking about dinner this one wins.
I love cutlets I like them both fried, as I love to cook them, and baked as Reny prepares them; the same goes for the fries that I like in both versions, but if I have to choose one, I opt for the less healthy one which, in my opinion, cannot fail to be the first choice for a Calabrian... fried food!
I love it because it's simple to prepare and very quick and then, to me personally, it gives a sense of family; this is due to the fact that, when I was a boy, my Mom often prepared it for dinner and therefore those evenings come back to me.
Even when I went out with the scouts, my mother made me a sandwich with cutlet, without the fries, however, those did not suit scout life eh eh!
Preparing the cutlet is simple, but we generally take them already made from our trusted butcher; it is nothing more than a slice of breaded meat.
I love all cuts of meat, perhaps my favorite though is beef.
As for the french fries, what to say, they are peeled, cut into wedges and fried; even those, however, just in case, we keep a supermarket pack in the freezer.
It is a dish that we mainly eat at home but, in the past, when I lived in Milan, I also ate it in restaurants; you must know that the cutlet is also called alla "milanese" since it is a typical Lombard dish or so they say, when it comes to the origin of the recipes, I am very skeptical since, for each recipe, there are many countries, cities, regions and peoples who claim paternity.
In any case, if you pass by Milan I suggest you try it, better the typical one with the bone also known as "Elephant Ear" due to its shape that reminds it, naturally all accompanied by a nice plate of fried potatoes; in those parts it will certainly not be a cheap dish but in any case, spending the right amount, you can eat something really very good.
As you well know, however, when it comes to culinary experiences, I tend not to look at the cost much because I believe that cooking is culture and knowledge and therefore you can afford to spend a little more, obviously within the limits of your finances.
To answer a few more questions posed in the prompt, I can say that I've been eating this dish for practically all my life and, if we talk about dinner, it's always been my favorite; I tend not to eat meat often but, those times a week which often happens it is precisely the cutlet so I would say that at least two dinners a week are made up of fries and cutlet.
It goes without saying that I mainly eat this special meal with Reny and the fact that I eat it together with my better half makes it even more special.
Before concluding comes the surprise, turn and turn around I managed to find the picture of one of our dinner...
Yes, I understand that there's not only schnitzel and fries but, that evening Reny wanted to eat lasagna and I had also found those beautiful spring rolls that deserved to be eaten.
There are two cutlets in the photo, one is actually covered and they are in XL format even if the photo doesn't do it justice.

Ed eccomi, pronto come ogni settimana, per scrivere sul nuovo tema suggerito dal buon @mypathtofire per Ecency.
Non ho capito bene cosa si intenda invece oggi con il suggerimento dell'HiveBloPoMo, problemi di traduzione he he.
Ho immaginato che il prompt, tradotto nella mia lingua, volesse dire di dedicarmi per oggi ad un argomento a piacere sfrutterò pertanto la settimanale occasione di Ecency.
Spero di non essermi sbagliato, in ogni caso il senso della sfida è pubblicare una volta al giorno per trenta giorni e questo lo sto facendo.
Bene, iniziamo!
Oggi si parla di cibo e, Ti confesso, mi sono davvero trovato in difficoltà.
Quello che vedi nella foto in copertina è un piatto di antipasti che abbiamo mangiato nella cena di ieri per festeggiare il mio compleanno; amo il pesce ed in generale è uno dei mie cibi preferiti ma non posso metterlo sul primo gradino del podio.
Ho pensato parecchio cosa potesse vincere, lasagna, riso al forno, polpette, hamburger, brodino... insomma le cose che amo mangiare sono tantissime!
Alla fine ho optato per un piatto molto semplice che adoro ma che ha anche un valore affettivo essendo legato a tanti ricordi e sensazioni.
Quindi il mio piatto preferito è...
Rullo di tamburi e qualche secondo di attesa per creare suspance...
Cotoletta e patatine fritte!
Ti sembrerà banale come risposta e, onestamente, se mi fosse stato chiesto il mio piatto preferito in assoluto probabilmente avrei detto qualcosa di diverso ma, visto che si parla di cena, questo vince.
Adoro le cotolette mi piacciono sia fritte, come amo cucinarle io, sia al forno come le prepara Reny; lo stesso vale per le patatine che mi piacciono in entrambe le versioni, se devo però sceglierne una opto per quella meno salutare ma che, secondo me, non può non essere la prima scelta per un Calabrese... il fritto!
Mi piace tantissimo perché è semplice da preparare e molto veloce e poi, a me personalmente, regala un senso di famiglia; questo è dovuto al fatto che, quando ero ragazzo, la mia Mamma la preparava spesso per cena e quindi mi tornano in mente quelle serate.
Addirittura, quando facevo le uscite con gli scout, mia madre mi preparava il panino con la cotoletta, senza le patatine fritte però, quelle non si addicevano alla vita scout eh eh!
Preparare la cotoletta è semplice, noi però generalmente le prendiamo già fatte dal nostro macellaio di fiducia; non è altro che una fetta di carne impanata.
Io amo tutti i tagli di carne, forse quella che preferisco però è quella di manzo.
Per quel che riguarda le patatine fritte cosa dire, si sbucciano, si tagliano a spicchi e si friggono; anche di quelle comunque, per ogni evenienza, ne teniamo in congelatore un pacco da supermercato.
E' un piatto che mangiamo principalmente a casa ma, in passato, quando vivevo a milano l'ho mangiato anche al ristorante; devi sapere che la cotoletta si chiama anche alla "milanese" poiché è un tipico piatto lombardo o almeno così dicono io, quando si parla di provenienza delle ricette, sono molto scettico visto che, per ogni ricetta, ci sono tanti paesi, città, regioni e popoli che se ne attribuiscono la paternità.
In ogni caso se passi da Milano Ti consiglio di provarla, meglio quella tipica con l'osso anche conosciuta come "Orecchio di Elefante" per la sua forma che lo ricorda, naturalmente il tutto accompagnato da un bel piatto di patate fritte; da quelle parti non risulterà sicuramente essere un piatto economico ma comunque, spendendo il giusto, si può mangiare qualcosa di davvero molto buono.
Come ben sai io comunque, di fronte alle esperienze culinarie, tendo a non guardare molto il costo perché credo che la cucina sia cultura e conoscenza e quindi ci si può permettere di spendere qualcosa in più, ovviamente nei limiti delle proprie finanze.
Per rispondere ancora a qualche domanda posta nel prompt posso dire che mangio questo piatto da praticamente tutta la vita e, se parliamo di cena, è la mia preferita da sempre; tendenzialmente non mangio spesso carne ma, quelle volte a settimana che capita spesso si tratta proprio della cotoletta quindi direi che almeno due cene a settimana sono composte da patatine fritte e cotoletta.
Inutile dire che consumo questo pasto speciale principalmente con Reny e, il fatto di mangiarlo insieme alla mia dolce metà lo rende ancora più speciale.
Prima di concludere arriva la sorpresa, gira che Ti rigira sono riuscito a trovare l'immagine di una nostra cena...
Si, capisco che non ci sono solo la cotoletta e le patatine ma, quella sera a Reny andava di mangiare la lasagna e io avevo trovato anche quei bei involtini primavera che meritavano di essere mangiati.
Le cotolette nella foto sono due, una è in realtà coperta e sono in formato XL anche se la foto non gli rende giustizia.
Bene, ora sono davvero giunto alla fine, come sempre Ti ringrazio per essere arrivato fino a questo punto.
