From this it emerges that much of our representation of the world, but also of our self, involves the presence of another person; it passes from the presence and action of another that I look at, listen to and learn from.
Knowledge therefore, necessarily, always involves both our experience and our judgment; this experience and this judgment are prompted by the words, gestures and behaviors of others, especially those who are relevant people in our lives.
At this point, if our representation of reality always presupposes the presence of others, be it direct or indirect, then the theme of credibility and trust becomes absolutely central.
The reliability of the communicator and the trust of the observer are the cornerstone of all cognitive and communicative relationships.

At this point, therefore, it goes without saying that credibility should be considered as a personal quality, a moral characteristic of people.
If you think about it, however, it's not just like that, in fact credibility is something that is also recognized by others, therefore it is also a relationship.
Often those who are credible for one person are not credible for others, at least not to the same extent, in the same way or for the same reasons.
Credibility is based on a reputation that is acquired and consolidated over time through many confirmations, but it must also be rebuilt and regained every time.
We always anticipate some form of credibility if you think about it and, ultimately, even misunderstanding or misunderstanding as well as deception are always preceded by an anticipation of credibility and trust; in all relationships there is always an opening of credit towards the other and otherwise we wouldn't even look at him or start talking to him.
The further question that is normal to ask ourselves now is: on what basis do we grant credibility to our interlocutors?
Basically there are three great origins of credibility and I will now list them for you.
The first is knowledge and competence.
This is the credibility enjoyed by someone who has reliable knowledge, it could be the credibility of a teacher or a doctor, essentially we are talking about someone who knows what they say and takes responsibility for what they say.

Finally, the third origin of credibility is constituted by emotional attachment.
In this case we can think for example of the relationship between mother and child, especially in the first years of life; we are talking about credibility that is based on the perception of a positive bond that is a source of well-being.
This same root also includes the friendship relationship and, more generally, the fact that we consider those we like and respect more credible and reliable than those we don't like and towards whom we have negative feelings.

Si può conoscere per esperienza diretta, cioè quando siamo testimoni di un evento e ci chiediamo cosa sta succedendo, quindi in questo caso conosciamo un evento vedendolo o partecipandovi attivamente. La conoscenza immediata nel mondo quotidiano, ma anche la conoscenza scientifica, attraverso ricerca sul campo e osservazione sperimentale costituiscono la modalità di questa prima forma di apprendimento.

Oggi gran parte della conoscenza si forma attraverso la testimonianza o il racconto, quindi attraverso la mediazione di un altro individuo.
Da questo emerge che gran parte della nostra rappresentazione del mondo, ma anche del nostro io, coinvolge la presenza di un'altra persona; passa dalla presenza e dall'azione di un altro che io guardo, ascolto e da cui imparo.
La conoscenza quindi, necessariamente, implica sempre sia la nostra esperienza che il nostro giudizio; questa esperienza e questo giudizio sono sollecitati dalle parole, dai gesti e dai comportamenti di altri, soprattutto di coloro che sono persone rilevanti nella nostra vita.
A questo punto, se la nostra rappresentazione della realtà presuppone sempre la presenza di altri, sia essa diretta o indiretta, allora il tema della credibilità e della fiducia diventa assolutamente centrale.
L'affidabilità del comunicatore e la fiducia dell'osservatore sono pietra angolare di tutte le relazione cognitive e comunicative.
A questo punto alcune domande nascono spontanee:
Cosa è la credibilità? Chi è credibile?

Se ci pensi bene però non è solo così, infatti la credibilità è qualcosa che viene anche riconosciuta dagli altri, pertanto è anche un rapporto.
Spesso chi è credibile per uno non lo è per altri, quantomeno non lo è nella stessa misura, allo stesso modo o per le stesse ragioni.
La credibilità si basa su una reputazione che viene acquisita e consolidata nel tempo attraverso molte conferme, ma essa deve anche essere ricostruita e riconquistata ogni volta.
Noi anticipiamo sempre una qualche forma di credibilità se ci pensi e, in fondo, anche l'incomprensione o il fraintendimento così come l'inganno sono sempre preceduti da un'anticipazione di credibilità e di fiducia; in tutti i rapporti c'è sempre un'apertura di credito nei confronti dell'altro e altrimenti non lo guarderemmo nemmeno e non inizieremmo a parlare con lui.
L'ulteriore domanda che è normale porsi ora è: su quale base accordiamo credibilità ai nostri interlocutori?
Sostanzialmente esistono tre grandi origini della credibilità e andrò ora a elencartele.
La prima è costituita dalla conoscenza e dalla competenza.
