I don’t know if you have ever noticed my profile page, under the photo of my big face there is a quote by Soren Kierkegaard: life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.
Well, I think Hive is a reality, even if virtual, that should be fully lived without becoming a huge puzzle.
Now, I really had to think a lot before starting to write, really a lot this time because - you know - I am a web dissident and after wandering with my mind here and there, reflecting on the steps I take from login to logout, I reached my conclusion.
What am I looking for when I open Hive?
Absolutely nothing and honestly, I’m perfectly fine with that.
Have you ever noticed when you get out of bed and feel like the room is a little low on oxygen? Well, I open Hive like I open the window in the morning. I don’t have a precise plan in mind, I just try to let in a bit of air and some light, not too much, because it bothers me just after waking up.
I’m not looking for enlightenment, I’m not searching for new revolutionary communities and I’m not chasing frantic interaction. I open Hive, scroll a bit through the feed, see if there are posts I like, maybe discover a new user I like and upvote and/or follow them.
I check with horror my voting power which is always too low to reply to comments on my posts as I would like, I look on oliodibalena community or the profiles of people I’m connected to, to see if they have posted and I always vote, with my voting power that I see dropping geometrically, definetely resigned.
When I like a post I upvote and/or comment and/or reblog. Sometimes I don’t vote immediately on a post or comment because I try to bring my voting power back up to decent levels, because I want to leave a little extra, then sometimes I forget and make a fool of myself...
I anxiously check my wallet (after the experience of my first hacked profile) ready to write to my key master @libertycrypto27 at any suspicious sign). If I need to stake I do a power up and then leave.
I’m a bit like the old lady who enters the bar, leaves a coin on the counter, drinks her coffee quietly and then leaves quietly dragging her cane. But she comes back the next day, and the day after and that must mean something.
So the truth is that on Hive I’m not searching, I enter with an almost automatic gesture, I give my votes almost always at 100% with attention and consistency, I do Power Ups regularly and I try to keep a regular posting schedule which is a way to contribute and be part of the community even if inspiration isn’t always perfect.
There are those who enter to explore, those who seek stimuli, those who want to build deep interactions, those who have their notification boards full to read, those who knowingly seek maximum profit, those who have to publish every day like it’s a job.
Not me, I open Hive when it’s my free moment in the day, I browse, discover, vote, post if I feel inspired, then I turn it off.
It might seem sad but no, for me it’s calm and a bit zen.
Hive for me is an orderly place, where you enter, leave a small sign of yourself and go back to doing your real life duties.
And to think that at the beginning I tried to understand the dynamics of curators and get involved in the most active communities.
But then I realized that my happiness in being in this virtual space didn’t come from that.
I stopped searching. And paradoxically, I started finding.
Lately, I must say I also tried venturing into communities other than the Italian one, found by chance in my feed or promoted by users I followed over time and interacted with.
I found a little rhythm of my own, the consistency to post without the anxiety to please, a meaning in giving value with my vote to those I find deserving, even just for affinity or sympathy.
For this reason I also recently invested something of my own in Hive, to give some value to my curation. In fact, even when I find a payout I feel satisfied, and thinking that my vote might weigh a bit more for a virtual friend makes me even happier.
And if one day I spend four hours making a post and no vote comes, well, never mind.
My vote is sometime instinct driven, it’s not just strategy. Certainly, the vote is a gesture of mutual support, a silent solidarity that sustains and moves forward those who consistently dedicate themselves to the community, a simple way to recognize commitment among users sharing the same digital space.
But to me sometimes it’s enough to know that behind every post there is someone who puts a little passion and a bit of soul.
For me Hive is a bit like my condominium, a big digital condominium. We’re not really friends but we always greet each other when we cross paths and you can always knock on my door if you’re missing lemon or sugar or you need to leave the kids or your elderly mom alone for an hour: Hi, nice post today – Thanks, yours too!
Because I didn’t come here to find, I came to Hive to be. And that’s fine.
If one day I feel I have something important to share, I know Hive is an open space where I can do it freely. And if I have nothing to say, that’s fine too, I can express myself just with a vote, because Hive doesn’t impose rhythms on me.
I can take my time, stay silent even for days, and when I post a thought, maybe I find someone who appreciates it simply for what it is.
So yes, I continue to search for nothing.
And look, somehow I found something anyway: smart users, a nice Italian community, authors and artists from all over the world, inspiration, interaction and many friendships, sometimes closer, sometimes less so. But always genuine.
So, paraphrasing an old popular proverb, those who DO NOT seek… find!

Non so se avete mai fatto caso alla pagina del mio profilo, sotto la foto del mio faccione c’è una frase di Soren Kierkegaard: La vita non è un problema da risolvere, ma una realtà da vivere.
Ecco, io penso che Hive sia una realtà, seppur virtuale, che vada vissuta a pieno senza divenire un enorme rompicapo.
Ora, ho dovuto davvero riflettere tanto prima di cominciare a scrivere, ma davvero tanto stavolta perché voi ormai lo sapete, io sono una dissidente del web e dopo aver girovagato con la mia mente in lungo e in largo, riflettendo sui passaggi che compio dal login al logout sono giunta alla mia conclusione.
Cosa vado cercando io quando apro Hive?
Assolutamente niente e soprattutto, mi va benissimo così.
Avete presente quando vi alzate dal letto e sentite che nella stanza manca un po’ di ossigeno? Ecco, io apro Hive come si apre la finestra la mattina. Non ho in mente un piano preciso, cerco solo di far entrare un po’ d’aria e un po’ di luce, non troppa, che mi da fastidio appena sveglia.
Non vado cercando l’illuminazione, non cerco nuove community rivoluzionarie e non cerco interazione spasmodica. Apro Hive, giro un po’ nel feed, vedo se ci sono post che possono piacermi, magari scopro un utente nuovo che mi piace e lo voto e/o lo seguo.
Controllo con orrore il mio voting power che è sempre troppo basso per rispondere ai commenti sui miei post come vorrei, cerco in oliodibalena o nei profili delle persone alle quali sono più legata se abbiano postato e li voto sempre con il mio voting power che vedo decrescere in progressione geometrica ormai rassegnata.
Quando un post mi piace voto e/o commento e/o rebloggo. A volte non voto immediatamente un post o un commento, proprio perché cerco di far risalire il mio voting power a livelli decenti, perché voglio lasciare uno spicciolino in più, poi a volte mi dimentico e faccio figure meschine...
Controllo con ansia il mio wallet (dopo l’esperienza del primo profilo hackerato pronta a scrivere al mio mastro di chiavi @libertycrypto27 ad un eventuale segnale sospetto), se c’è da mettere in stake faccio un power up e me ne vado.
Sono un po’ come la vecchietta del quartiere che entra al bar e lascia una moneta al banco, beve il suo caffè in silenzio e poi esce un po’ silenziosamente strusciando il suo bastone. Però ci torna il giorno dopo, e quello dopo e questo vorrà pur dire qualcosa.
Quindi la verità è che su Hive non cerco, io entro con un gesto quasi automatico, assegno i miei voti però quasi sempre al 100% con attenzione e coerenza, faccio Power Up con costanza e cerco di mantenere una regolarità nei post che è un modo per contribuire e far parte della comunità anche se non sempre si ha l’ispirazione perfetta.
C’è chi entra per esplorare, chi cerca stimoli, chi vuole costruire interazioni profonde, chi ha la bacheca piena di notifiche da leggere, chi scientemente cerca il massimo guadagno, chi deve pubblicare ogni giorno come fosse un lavoro.
Io no, apro Hive quando è il mio momento libero nella giornata, girello, scopro, voto, pubblico se mi sento ispirata, spengo.
Potrebbe sembrare triste ma invece no, per me così è sereno e un po’ zen.
Hive per me è un luogo ordinato, dove si entra, si lascia un piccolo segno di sé e si torna a fare il proprio dovere nella vita reale.
E dire che io all’inizio ci ho provato a capire la dinamica dei curatori e a farmi coinvolgere nelle community più attive.
Ma poi ho capito che la mia felicità nello stare in questo spazio virtuale non passava da lì. Ho smesso di cercare.
E, paradossalmente, ho cominciato a trovare.
Ultimamente devo dire infatti che ho provato anche ad avventurarmi in comunità diverse da quella Italiana, trovate per caso nel mio feed o perché pubblicizzate da utenti che nel tempo ho seguito e con i quali ho interagito.
Ho trovato un piccolo ritmo tutto mio, la costanza di pubblicare senza l’ansia di piacere, un senso nel dare valore con il mio voto a chi mi sembra meritevole, anche solo per affinità o simpatia.
Per questo anche ultimamente ho anche investito qualcosa in Hive di mio, per dare un po’ di valore alla mia cura. Infatti anche io quando trovo pure qualche payout mi sento soddisfatta, e pensare che il mio voto possa pesare un po’ di più per un amico virtuale questo mi fa ancora più contenta.
E se un giorno che ho passato quattro ore a fare un post non arriva il voto, beh pazienza.
Non è solo strategia, a volte il mio voto è istintivo. Certo, il voto è gesto di supporto reciproco, una solidarietà silenziosa che sostiene e fa andare avanti chi si dedica con costanza alla comunità, un modo semplice per riconoscere l’impegno tra utenti che condividono lo stesso spazio digitale.
Ma a me a volte basta sapere che dietro ogni post c’è qualcuno che ci mette un pelo di passione e un po’ di anima.
Per me Hive è un po’ come il mio condominio, ecco, un grande condominio digitale. Non siamo proprio amici, ma ci si saluta sempre quando ci si incrocia e puoi sempre bussare alla mia porta se ti manca il limone o lo zucchero o devi lasciare da soli per un’oretta i bambini o tua mamma anziana: “Ciao, bel post oggi.” - “Grazie, anche il tuo.”
Perché io non sono venuta qui per trovare, sono venuta su Hive per esserci. E va bene così.
Se un giorno sento di avere qualcosa di importante da condividere, so che Hive è uno spazio aperto dove posso farlo liberamente.
E se invece non ho nulla da dire, va bene lo stesso, posso esprimermi solo con il voto, perché Hive non mi impone ritmi.
Posso prendermi i miei tempi, restare in silenzio anche per giorni, e quando pubblico un pensiero, magari riesco a trovare anche qualcuno che lo apprezza semplicemente per quello che è.
E quindi sì, continuo a non cercare nulla.
E guarda un po’, qualcosa l’ho trovata lo stesso: utenti in gamba, una bella comunità italiana, autori e artisti da tutto il globo, ispirazione, interazione e tante amicizie, a volte più strette, a volte meno. Ma sempre genuine
E allora, parafrasando un vecchio proverbio popolare, chi NON cerca… trova!
