Precipices along the trail are always a welcome respice spot. This one is Eagle Rock, about a three mile hike from Trippet Ranch in Topanga. It looks like an eagle's head with wings from a certain angle, but this isn't it. There's also a cave at the top with ledgers to write whatever's on your mind, and read what other people have left.
Caves are common around here. This is all former sandstone and limestone sea bed, which erodes easily. It's not uncommon to pass formations that look like skulls, leopards...even elephants, all of which make for a fun day on the trail.
