You probably already have seen that I finally went through with shaving my head bald last week. I was pretty excited to finally do it, but really had no idea what to expect from it. My main goal was to rid myself of the tiny bit of hair that I still have. I've seen many men with the bald head and beard combo and thought I'd look pretty good with it. Add in the tattoos and how could it go wrong?
I've been bald now for a week or so and I can say that I do indeed like how I look. There are however some other things that I have to deal with, both good and bad. I thought it would be cool to talk about what I love and hate about now having a bald head.
First, I must say that my hair seems to start growing back almost immediately. I'll shave my head at night and then wake up the next morning and my head already feels like sandpaper. It's such an odd feeling to rub my head and it feels so rough. It doesn't stay shiny and smooth long and it certainly isn't soft like a full head of hair.
We are on the tail edge of winter here where I live, so temperatures have still been dropping here and there. If I don't have a hood or beanie on, my head feels like a block of ice. Luckily I have been able to keep it covered for the most part, but I couldn't help but notice the lack of insulation on my head now.
Another weird thing is that when I take off a shirt or dry off my head with a towel, the material seems to want to stick to my head almost. It no longer glides effortlessly off my skin. I really don't like this and I feel the only way to combat it is to shave daily so I never give my hair time to start growing back.
Upkeep, that's another thing I want to talk about. I have both an electric skull shaver and a regular blade that I use with shaving cream. Both work well, but I honestly think I prefer the razor. The only bad part about that is the blades become dull much quicker than with my skull shaver and they also cost a hell of a lot more to replace. I'm really hoping that I can get more adjusted to my skull shaver so that I don't have to fork over a bunch of money on razors every month.
I'm glad that I tried the bald look, but I'm unsure how long I will stick with it. If I can get into a routine of shaving every other day, then I think I can keep it going. Everything new seems a bit more difficult at first than it actually is. Either way, I feel like I'm very lucky to look pretty good bald. Enjoy the photos that go along with this post!
