@flowerbaby and I really enjoy our time together watching the races at our local dirt oval ring. The weather was even better this time, although our first time a few weeks back was nice too. Well, the weather sort of was better. Let me explain.
One Friday night we decided to try a new track that was twice as far as the only other one we had been to before. We drove to the Ohio Valley Speedway and ran into terrible storm clouds once we were about halfway there. If it rains, these dirt tracks become mud and are unsafe to race on, then the event gets canceled and you lost your entry free. We thought for sure that rain would start coming down, but decided to keep driving to the speedway anyways. I mainly wanted to see what the place looked like and to know if it would be worth coming back to another time. Plus the road to the track was beautiful, desolate, and so fun to drive on. Once we arrived we were surprised to find out that the place was jam-packed with fans. There were so many people there that it looked like it would be elbow to elbow, plus the clouds still said rain. Instead of paying $40 to get in, we turned around and drove an hour back home. We still had a fun time on the road together, so it wasn't a total waste. There was a downpour for about 5 minutes while we were driving home, but that somehow managed to not affect the track, and then ended up racing all night long.
We vowed to go to I77 Speedway the next night since it only rained in various spots and the track was still in good condition. We got lucky that it didn't get canceled and it turned out to be a perfect night. We packed our cooler full of food and drinks, brought some chairs & blankets, and had a great spot to relax. The only thing that we didn't think to bring was some sort of glasses or goggles to keep the dirt from flying into our eyes. It wasn't a major pain, but slightly annoying (especially with @flowerbaby's contact lenses).
I never thought that we both would enjoy these races so much, but we really do. It was an awesome Saturday night and I can't wait to go again soon.
