I took a plane, rode a van, and journeyed on a boat to get to this island. But that still does not answer how I got there.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would reach Eastern Samar and step into the island of Homonhon.
I have this belief that there are places you only ever get to when you're with the right people. I initially had this belief about local tourist destinations. Because they're so close to you, you don't see their appeal. But when someone comes along, a friend, a co-worker, or a relative who wants to visit the place, you get the chance to accompany them. And finally, you visit the local tourist spot for the first time. Then, you realize, "It's not so bad after all."
I found out that my belief is also true for faraway places.
My girlfriend has a goal of visiting all the provinces of the Philippines, and she's halfway through it already. When she told me of her plans to travel to Eastern Samar, I decided to tag along, not knowing what to expect.
I am so glad I decided to join her because I was amazed at the places we went to. I would never have thought about going to Eastern Samar if it weren't for her. I would never have discovered the quaint town of Guiuan and the magical place that is Homonhon island.
So, to answer the question, "How did I get here?"
Someone brought me here, and I'm glad she did.
