Last Saturday a student in my afternoon "Grammar in Context" class mentioned how much of an impression the scene from The Godfather had made on her - the one where Clemenza gets out of the car to "take a leak" while the driver is bumped off by the bloke in the rear seat.
Clemenza strolls back to the car and tersely tells the assassin to "Leave the gun. Take the cannoli."
Cannoli
Cannoli are Sicilian pastries. They consist of a tube of fried pastry dough filled with a ricotta based filling.
In the previous scene of The Godfather, Clemenza's wife asked him to bring back some cannoli. In the movie, Richard Castellano's line was simply, "Leave the gun." Apparently at the suggestion of Ardell Sheridan, his wife both in the movie and in real life, he ad libbed the line, "Take the cannoli" which was sheer genius as it ties the murder scene to what we presume to be a happy domestic scene of husband, wife and children tucking into cannoli when dad gets back home.
Vital Life Lesson
For our #Index4Index inspiration, let's just say that we need to adopt a flexible posture towards our online business. Some stuff that has served us until now needs to be ditched, but that does not mean we should abandon the good stuff we picked up along the way!
Dump the crap. Take the good stuff. Move on. No regrets.
