The amount of time it takes to build a decent construction like a building. Dig a hole first, create a decent concrete foundation. Let dry for a couple of days. Add some crawlspace in there. Set up the sides to lay bricks.Let dry for a couple of days. Add insulation. Make a wooden structure for the roof. Maybe even add some more insulation and lay any form of roof top on it. Drill slots for electricity. Add plumbing. Finish the walls and floors. Let dry for a couple of days. Add decoration. Building takes time, and often more than we like it to do. Even if nothing is happening, the amount of time it takes for stuff to dry and set in is already weeks where also nothing is happening.
Demolishing on the other hand…. That is an entirely different ballgame. Take a gigantic piece of machinery. Knock down everything in a couple of hours. Take a new piece of machinery and clean up all the rubble that was left there. And in one or two days, your building is gone like it was never there.
Remember that a couple of weeks back I was writing about this old abandoned shed in the neighborhood where I passed by nearly every day. In the morning I passed it with the dog and everything was normal. But in the afternoon, all of a sudden it was gone. I had to think to myself twice if I had missed something going on. But no, it was just taken down in a couple of hours without leaving a trace. Wow!
Now there is some construction (or should I better say de-construction) going on over here. And it is literally going so much faster than I thought it would. The big arm is going for it, and through the last window standing you can see what the backside of the building is missing. As if a gigantic bit was taken out of the building.
And that whole process of digging the hole, pouring the foundation, building the walls, adding the roof and spending all of the precious time in the building is gone like it was never there.
There is some melancholy in there for some reason?
