The shop sold a large variety of Egglets in different flavours with different fillings.
The staff were working in overdrive churning out Egglets nonstop.

I was just passing by the streets taking photos of the juxtaposition of modern mall next to what seemed like a pretty old building when I noticed a small crowd.
Being the curious tourist I was, I obviously had to check it out. It turned out that there was a queue forming over some food stall. That meant I had to join in the queue too.
The stall in question sold a rather classic Hong Kong snack, the “egglet” or 雞蛋仔. It’s basically a waffle shaped like a whole lot of mini eggs bunched together. Hence the name.
The queue was really long and I estimated that I waited for almost 30 mins before my order was ready. It seemed like everyone saw the crowd and continued joining the queue just to try out this presumably famous stall selling this classic Hong Kong snack.
I ordered a cheese egglet and when it was finally done, I peeled it off along the “dotted lines” to get it into bite size portions. The waffle was really fluffy and crispy at the same time. It tasted really nice and fresh with the cheese inside giving it a complementing taste to accompany the pastry.
I’m not too sure if I would join in the queues again in the future if I wanted to eat this again though. Sure it was nice, but was it “30 minutes wait time” nice? It felt like a minor upgrade over the something that is easily available as a street snack. So probably not. Although in fairness, I really enjoyed that quick snack. :)
