About the Quote
Without self-control, we end up being slaves to our impulses. We live only for the moment and that's it. We forget what happened a few minutes earlier, and we can't think about few minutes from now. Although this may seem good, well, at the moment, it also limits our potential for achieving greatness.
We can do something right now with the expectation that we will gain X, and normally that is OK. However, if we can delay gaining X for some period, we can gain "X+" later. This is the concept behind the practice of delayed gratification, and "X+" can end up being 1.25X, 2X, 10X, 100X, 1 million X, or even more. Delayed gratification is one reason for saving money, and that savings is what is used for investing.

It's useless to try to control others or to dominate the world if we can't even control ourselves first.
Some (More) Information about Napoleon Hill
Billionaire Andrew Carnegie proposed a challenge to the young Napoleon Hill: With no compensation, dedicate 20 years to documenting and recording a philosophy for achieving success, and he would introduce the young man to the wealthiest and most successful people he knew. Hill accepted that challenge from Carnegie.
During those 20 years, Napoleon Hill started a family and had a few business ventures which had varying degrees of success. Along the way, Hill met with some of the leading figures of his time. Among these leading figures were Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, John D. Rockefeller, Theodore Roosevelt, and King Gillette.
Early on, Napoleon Hill came to realize that all success began with having what he called a "definiteness of purpose". According to Hill, "the man who knows exactly what he wants⦠has no difficulty in believing in his own ability to succeed." This formed the basis for most of Hills future writings and work.
