About the Quote
For many reasons, age is important in legal matters. Examples include minimum age to vote, maximum age before reaching retirment, and minimum age to run for elective office. Outside of legal qualifications, age doesn't matter much.
When it comes to gender, it doesn't make a difference when the work can be done by either; think of any work involving education, a corporation, or government. When gender makes a difference, such as in professional athletics or firefighting, it shouldn't matter provided the person can satisfy basic requirements which depend on strength or endurance.
More important that age and gender are thinking skills, good character, and performance under stress. Is the person able to learn new skills quickly? Will the person's personal habits prove to be costly in the long run? Can the person deliver results as deadlines draw near?
