One evening at sunset, whilst walking high above the town in the fields, I happened across this angle of these (delicious) sheeps. They were at just the right position to capture here against the bright sunset. A fitting reward for a long walk.

We've visited before, the River Dart. Here it is in full flow after heavy rains, and in the chill of winter. Yet it looks to picturesque in the sun ... swimming not recommended right now! Wait for the summer and lazy flow ..

A bird of prey, a kestrel hovers with the moon visible during the day. Frequently spotted circling the fields above the town, cleaning vermin from crops.

These buildings are built along the River Mardle, and now mainly consist of apartments, small houses, or holiday lets. This is part of the complex where I rented a cheap place to hole up for the lockdown.

The same alleyway and part of the courtyard complex of small houses along the Mardle. Some of the spaces are also used for workshops, others are empty and represent opportunity for future development.

The famous Buckfast Abbey, one of the main tourist draws of the town. Featured also in part 1, this is from another angle. Visitors were encouraged to walk on the grass all they wanted.

The South Devon Railway Classic Car show is getting going on a warm sunny late summer afternoon, just after lockdowns lifted enough to allow it.

There are plenty of woods around, some ancient and some managed as renewable sources. They make an excellent place to escape and be surrounded by tranquility.

Found along the forest floor, growing wild. There is a way to prepare this which will cause a vivid hallucinogenic experience. However, as it is in this state, very poisonous. Not good if you get the prep wrong either. For the record, no way Jose.

Once this bus hauled passengers around busy London routes. Today it is fully restored and maintained as a local tour bus. A very wonderful machine indeed, from a bygone age.
Ah, The Devon Countryside ...
There is no telling what you might see any given day. Sheeps crazing against a sunset, an old double decker bus, fly agaric hallucinogenic fungi on the forest floor. Just another day in Middle Earth - aka Devon, England.
This is the second set of 10 photo picks from a recent trawl through my archives of the past couple of years. As you'll see should you ever go through my historical posts, I spent 21 months of my life around this small town on the edge of Dartmoor. Here are 10 more choice moments from this time.
Small Town Blues
These shots were all taken either right outside the house I rented, or in the nearby surrounds. The bus was present as part of a classic car show (also pictured) at the historical steam train station in the town. These trains are a great way to be transported back in time to when it was the main mode of transport to get tourists to the beautiful and milder temperate sunny shores of the southwest coast of England. Having grown up around here, it has a special place in my heart. Should you ever visit I'm certain it will find one in yours also.
That's all, for today ...
