Okay, don't you get too excited guys! Haha This ain't Sarah Lahbati and Richard Gutierrez's prenup photoshoot. 😂 It's just me and my boyfriend during one of our visits in Oslob, a town in the south eastern part of Cebu.
Have you ever heard about the gentle giants of Cebu? Yup, on this particular day I joined my boyfriend's family in their trip to see the gentle giants of Cebu. It was early in the morning as they say it's the best time to visit. It wasn't my first attempt to see the whale sharks. My family went here a few years ago but because of the huge waves, the local Tourism's Office didn't accept any guest. After that, I never had the chance to come back. Thankfully, another opportunity came and this time, I was with my boyfriend and his family.
In order to reach the giants, the tourists need to ride a small unmotorized boats. To be honest, you can just swim from the shore to the area where the whale sharks usually gather. But that's not allowed. Tourists could choose whether to swim with the giants or just stay in the boat and watch the giants from there. That is already a humbling experience but my boyfriend and I were determined to see and to experience more.
We swam with the giants, took a few selfies and photos with them in the background. I can remember how scared I was when I went as near as less than 1 meter because I can't see without my glasses! Haha Everything is blurry! When my boyfriend told me to come back, it was already late. The mouth of the whale was almost beside my legs! I panicked but managed to stay away.
They looked scary because of how huge they are but after spending some time, I felt I'm safe with their company. One just had to get used to their size but really, there's nothing to be afraid of. Because in the end, they may be giants but they're gentle unless otherwise provoked.
