"What was the craziest thing you've done in your life?"
A few years ago, my answer to this question would've been "I went to a foreign island for a guy!" but the most recent answer is "I surfed with an infected and swollen ear!"
I am not proud of my decision to push through surfing but how did I even get here in the first place? Going back to Day 2 of our Eastern Samar adventure, I already felt a weird sensation in my right ear as if seawater is stuck and had nowhere to go to. We had activities and places to go lined up so I didn't have time to confirm if there was indeed something wrong. Not until Day 3 when we went back to Guiuan and I started feeling a sharp and distinct pain in my right ear. By then it had swelled a bit but was still manageable.
Come Day 4 when we visited Guinduyanan Cove, Panglao Beach, and Canhugas Nature Park, my right ear was already too painful that we had to drop by a pharmacy on our way to Guinduyanan Cove to get pain relievers and antibiotics. Honestly, if not for the meds I took, I won't make it. You thought I was 100% well when we visited Guinduyanan and the other destinations? LOL! I'm just too good at hiding my real feelings. 😅
Day 4 was nothing but fun and adventure, but when the adrenaline subsided, the pain resurfaced. My right ear felt worse this time and uttering a word or any motion that required my mouth to move was unbearable. When we arrived at ABCD Surf Camp, I took a nap and waited for the additional meds I took to take effect while everyone else enjoyed the fair afternoon strolling by the beach. We initially planned to surf together so despite feeling extreme pain in my ear, I went for it! I wouldn't recommend this to other people but I thought that my next visit to Guiuan is years away and I'm not one to let the opportunity to surf go without a fight. HAHA And in my fighting, my ear worsened that night. Nonetheless, it was fun! If you believe me. 😂😂😂
