Hello Hello I hope you like what I am going to put on the blockchain for posterity today.
I am a native of Edinburgh, but when I was growing up, the canal (yes there is a canal running through) in Edinburgh was closed and in places it was a very sorry state.
The Union canal or to give its full title, the Edinburgh and Glasgow Union canal. They shortened it to Union Canal, and just as well as this canal only goes to Falkirk, and then another canal joins it to Glasgow.
The canal was reopened in 2001 and this was me having a wander in June of 2021. This was the beginning or end of it, depending which you look at it, the start or the finish!
The pink boats are actually belonging to a charity, and they do hire out the boat in the picture, as well as giving some needy people day out cruises.
Some of you might know that I am wanting to live on a boat like this. A canal boat or a canal narrowboat.
They come in various lengths but I want one between 48 and 57 foot in length. That is an optimum size that can fit into any lock on the English and Welsh canal network.
The Scottish networks are not connected to the English and Welsh ones, so our boat would probably be bought from an English boater/dealer!
Do you like the look of those boats, could you live on one?
You can see the big bridge that lifts up to let a boat through, then gets lowered for when a car wants to use the road over the canal.
