Remember the walk-in-office?
For several weeks, my only option to have a proper office setting and work ergonomically was sitting in the brand-new walk-in-office (before known as walk-in-closet). This meant that during the day, I'd sit on the couch or dinner table with my laptop, my back and neck didn't really love that, but I had no other option. I thought this would take several months before we could buy my office setting as we first needed to make sure my boyfriend was settled because he needs to sit there 6 days a week so more than fulltime.
This was our priority so I just dealt with it and often sat in the office until 2 AM as I was not very creative/productive and efficient anymore by the time I could sit there. After all, the 6 year old lady needs attention too and once boyfriend is done, we often try to have a good walk and come back late at night so I can really mostly not sit there until late at night. It's been a bit disappointing for me personally because I felt that I really could not handle the workload combined with the stress around getting our stuff handled here. It was a bit of a downward spiral for a few weeks.
I did not even bother looking for the things I need
At first, I felt there were too many other things to take care of first. That is until my boyfriend mentioned that @whywhy shared some screens with a nice price tag on it. We had a look and checked other screens as well, I found a good pair for 144 euros each on that website, but when I checked other websites, I found them for 129 euros each. At this point we thought we may needed the HDMI cables so then we'd have them for free and some more discount compared to the other store. I decided to not waste this -44% offer because I checked to see what they cost in Holland, 249 each! I figured that even though my office setting would take some more time, I'd be smart to buy the 2 screens for this nice price. And so I did, I only had to wait 2 days for them to arrive.
Ordering what was needed
As I will be working from my laptop on a docking station (we already have it as we took it from Budapest), I needed a keyboard as I didn't want to keep typing on the laptop forever. Although I was a bit hesitative to get it done (his keyboard was close to 100 euros), he went looking on aliexpress and found a mechanical keyboard for me for just 28 euros including free shipping! I did not expect the world of it honestly, but as I got fond of the mechanical keyboard he has, I thought this was going to be at least better than the average regular keyboard and for 28 euros I was willing to take the risk.
We also ordered the second desk (this was honestly most work, I will not bore you with that story), and this time I got lucky because the more expensive (sit-stand) desk is now mine! With these few items, my workplace could be all ready, and the few days until the desk arrived I just sat at the dinner table using my 2 new screens. Gosh, what a blessing compared to looking on my laptop so many hours. I really started to hate it big time!
Bedroom/office
As you can see in the pictures, we have a big bedroom, it's the only bedroom, but it's really spacious. We have a big wardrobe, a double bed (with storage under it), a bunk bed and my daughter's play kitchen. Now my desk is added and as you can see there is still room behind me to add some more things if needed in the future. I can see how I will need some place to store crafting supplies so that may come in handy later. The only thing that I still need to buy is a decent chair, as this one is causing the same issues as I had in Budapest working on the chair from the dining table. I will not go for an office chair myself though, I will hunt for a perfect dining table chair that looks a bit nice in this room as well. I don't want to wait too long to find it as I think it's still a few weeks of summer sale but for now, I have to say, I'm super happy.
No decoration yet
As we don't have decoration in any room yet, this room feels very calm currently, the white with light colors on the bed give me a Zen feeling so I've already been much more productive since this desk is placed here. I can now finally start planning my work a bit more during the day and soon when school starts, I can work all school hours. I still have to get rid of the "working late at night vibe" it's not out of my system yet, but I will have to shake it off soon enough because once our daughter is in bed, I don't want her to hear me typing constantly, this thing is kind of noisy, lol.
What I've learned here is that even when you have a 1 bedroom apartment, this can be utilized very good if you use the right furniture. It's amazing to see and experience that this place is probably one of the smallest we lived in but yet it feels super big. I'm very content!
