"There is only one way to avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing."
Aristotle
I believe it's not always easy to determine if people who lived so long ago, such as Aristotle, actually said some of the things that are attributed to them, but since Aristotle left an extensive written work, it may be so.
Not that it matters to our purpose here. The real focus here is the quote itself rather than the author and this is a very good one, in my opinion.
I think there are at least two ways you can look at this quote: one is that if we want to avoid criticism, we need to live a very low-key life and don't draw any attention to ourselves, our plans and our achievements.
While that makes some sense, I believe there is another way to look at it, which I prefer. And that is the fact that it's practically impossible to avoid criticism because, no matter what we do, there will always be people criticizing our decisions.
These people may be motivated by jealousy, hatred or merely the need to comment about other people's lives that is inherent to many of us. The fact is, if you stand out, you will be criticized so bear that in mind.
