Dumpling for life
I love dumplings, dim sum, and the like. A while back, a friend recommended a particular place that I had often passed by. From the outside, it has a humble, quaint appearance. At times, it might not even look open, but the sign assures it is :D After hearing the recommendation about it being a fantastic Taiwanese dumpling spot, I decided to give it a go. Since then, I’ve been back multiple times whenever I crave a quality dumpling, that’s where I head.
The establishment is compact, occupying just one unit with a simple setup. The menu is straightforward, offering only a handful of items. Naturally, it features Taiwanese dumplings filled with pork, beef, and shrimp. While they have a shrimp variant, I always go for the pork, which came highly recommended as their bestseller.
Speaking of recommendations, they come from the owner, who also happens to be the chef. Every visit, I see her bustling about, preparing dumplings by hand in the back before boiling them out front. Their dumplings are exquisite, soft inside and out, generously filled with pork and a smattering of vegetables. The taste and texture are spot-on.
I once tried their Taiwanese sausage. While tasty, its value proposition didn’t quite match up to the dumplings, given its price of about 70++ Thai baht for just a few pieces. I also sampled their stir-fried vegetables, which were decent.
However, if I had to make a recommendation, it would undoubtedly be the dumplings. They offer variations served in either a clear broth or a spicy mala soup, both of which I’m eager to try. Still, I often find myself sticking to the classic dumplings, which have never let me down.
So, if you find yourself in Chiang Mai with a hankering for genuine, authentic Taiwanese dumplings, this is the place to be. The diligent lady running the place, she's actually from Taiwan but now calls Thailand home, (shall we call this 'Thaiwanese food', then? #lol) ensures the authenticity of every bite.
