There are some life events I can easily recall, while others are tough to revisit, but one that still stands out vividly is my first day of fishing. It was late 1995 when I hit the Danube's shore with a schoolmate and learned how to fish.
I was catching one of the most common fish in the area. Any damn fool on this planet could’ve done what I did, but I was so proud of myself because I was learning something new and doing it with passion.
That hobby stuck with me for about nine solid years, but as college loomed, I gradually lost interest in fishing. It’s been well over five years since I last held a fishing rod. I kinda feel like that passion’s gone for good.
About four years ago, I started hitting the gym, and aside from a few slip-ups, I go almost every week, four or five times. I’d be lying if I said I achieved my dream physique, but I ain’t quitting either. The gym gives me a bit of purpose to get up in the morning.
That’s why I try to hit it as early as possible to not waste that energy and drive. I can’t say I’m living with passion, though, and that sucks a lot.I got a friend in the boat cruise industry. Today’s a pretty slow day in that business, even though August is usually solid because tons of folks vacation around here. We chatted for a couple of hours, and at one point, he said he hates not doing anything.
It’s true that hustling for clients brings in cash, but the idea of being on the move, of doing something, is what defines us as a species. That’s what I’m missing.
When I got back from Norway in 2017, I was definitely in need of a good break, but that break dragged on way too long. I’m leaving the country by the end of the month, and though I’m pretty sure I won’t be working on anything I’m passionate about, I’ll at least have a reason to get up in the morning.
As I mentioned in [my post yesterday](my post yesterday), if I’d had a fixed income during the current bull market, I would’ve played my cards way better. I wouldn’t have been forced to sell crypto for living expenses. Maybe I’ll do better in the next cycle if I can lock in some steady income later this year or next.
Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
