Due to the climatic changes that have occurred around the world, as a consequence of the misuse of natural resources and the destruction of the environment, there are different animal and plant species that have disappeared from the face of the earth and there are many others that are on the verge of extinction.

▶ Man must be aware of everything that is in their environment, nature makes us a legacy full of color, as expressed by the different varieties of plants that exist in it, many of these species are sometimes considered of little value and some are also considered worthless, so they have not been given due importance from the ecological point of view.

From this arises the need to establish nurseries, collections or germplasm banks, where the morphological characteristics of wild plants can be observed in order to preserve them for future generations.
Heliconias are monocotyledonous plants, with a cryzomatous growth that emits shoots or offshoots, each of these is composed of a stem, technically called pseudostem, the leaves are composed of a petiole and a lamina, placed in a distichous position, the wild characteristics of these plant species make them potential plants for use in preservation programs.

These plants are of vital ecological importance, since due to their rhizomatous growth they are apt to counteract earth movements on the eroded slopes of ravines. The great majority of species inhabit humid and rainy regions, but a few can be found in dry areas.
