So, yesterday was our Culmination Day. Our theme for this event was “Fiesta ng Bayan”. We wore old clothes like Kimona, Barong tagalog and Filipiniana to portray our old history and how people used to dress before. We chose this theme since this culmination is for our GEE-KKF subject, which means "Kontekstuwalisadong Komunikasyon sa Filipino”. The theme was perfect because in this subject we are required to always speak Filipino, and this just taught us the importance of embracing our national language and learn more about our history.
Before the event start, I arrive at school at 10:30 am. I went straight to the Hm Lab since it was the same day that we need to vote for the next officers in charge in our department. After that I went to our designated room to help and continue making designs to make our room colorful and pleasing to the eyes. As I arrived in the room, my classmates were already cutting and started putting the design. Clyde, Christine, and Louie were putting the banderitas or also known as Fiesta Banners. They started putting it to see if how many banderitas we need. Ella was tasked to cut and make our little jeep, meanwhile Joshua and our class president had gone to get our little tindahan or sari-sari store. Our other classmates were divided so that half of them would do the cooking while the other half will help in the design making.
While they were busy making the designs, Clyde has started to set up the sound system that we will use during the event. They also charge the two mics since we are using a wireless mic. Our class president also asked me to help her check some paper works that our section did to see if we all have done it. A few minutes later, some of our classmates has arrived and started putting the finished designs. I helped Rena and April to attach the window design in the wall. I also helped them set up the tables where the food will be put and where we all going to eat.
While we are busy setting everything up, my classmate decided to check our sound system to see if it going to play all our songs smoothly. We closed the doors so that it won’t be too loud and we won’t bother the other rooms since there were some rooms that are occupied by students who are taking an exam or having a class. After checking, we had a short karaoke to mic test our two microphones. A few minutes after, it was already noon so we all took turns who will have lunch so that those people who are not still hungry will continue making design and some will start to clean the room.
It was already pass 1:00 pm when my classmates arrived from taking their lunch. We continued cutting the designs and setting our room to make it presentable. While they are busy, some of us, including me, has started changing with our outfits. I put my face mask first so that my skin later will be smooth when I apply my make up. I let it dry for about 20 minutes and change into my outfit. It was around 3:00 pm when we finished designing and setting up our room. We started doing our make up and helping each other with our outfit since our event will start at 4:30 pm. While waiting with our other classmates to arrive; the ones who are assigned in cooking our food, we took some pictures with each other.
At exactly 4:30 pm our event has officially started. Our MCs did the opening and started introducing the performers. The first performance was the “Sayawan ng bayan” where in my classmates did a Kuradang dance. The second performance was “Sa Bayang Pagbigkas” where some of our classmates did poem performance. The third performance was “Pagsasadula” It was a by partner performance and my partner, and we did a “Pasayawa ko dae. The last performance was “Tawag ng Section A” it was also a by partner performance, but it was all girls only, unlike the Pagsasadula where in it was composed by a girl and a boy partner.
It was around 5:40 pm when we finished our performance. Our instructor gave a speech, and we had picture taking by performers and as a section. After that we started eating our foods and had a little disco dance inside our room. After the event, we started changing our clothes and clean up the room. Some of the foods was not finished so our classmates took some to bring to their house. It was almost 7 pm when we finished and locked the room.
We went to the kadasig gym to watch DUYOG 2025, wherein the HM and Tourism students showcase their talents in singing, dancing, and creating dresses. The theme of Duyog this year was like a runaway show, where some students will walk and wear dresses that they designed and there will be singers and backup dancers. I was amaze with their performance because some students where like fairies, some where like in a vogue, and others were like angels. Their wings were really big and beautiful, and I can’t help but feel so proud of them because they were all so amazing and did a great job with all their performance. It was not easy to perform in public and yet they showed such confidence and grace that truly captivated the audience. Their dedication and hard work were evident in every movement, making the entire presentation unforgettable and inspiring to everyone who watched.
Additionally, watching them perform made me realize that Hospitality Management is not just all about cooking and Tourism Management is not just about make-ups. It’s about showcasing your skills to everyone and make them eat up the things they say about us.
