HI! ANNYEONG! KONNICHIWA HIVERS! It’s @angelwingsss again and I’m going to share with you all our pre-orientation for our On-the-Job training.
So, the other day, June 4, 2025, was our pre-orientation for our On-the-Job training since we are an incoming 4th year student. Our orientation started around 9 am, I arrived at the university 2 minutes before 9 am, and since the attendance will cut off exactly at 9 am, I ran off to our student activity center where our pre-orientation will be held. Luckily, I was able to arrive on time before the attendance got cut off.
When I was inside of the student activity center, I looked for our section, and when I found them, I went looking for my friends. I noticed that there were no available chairs anymore so my classmates and I who don’t have any chairs went to Centrum to get some chairs, since our instructor told us that there are chairs in Centrum. When we arrived again inside the student activity center, the orientation has already started. Our classmate, who in an officer, took to lead the opening ceremony. After the opening ceremony, our instructor introduced first 3 students from our department: 2 from Tourism & 1 from Hospitality Management. They shared to us their internship experience in their respective industry. They also shared to us their experience in learning Japanese language or Nihongo. They encourage us to join Ichigo (where they learn Nihongo) to those students who also wants to learn Nihongo and those students who wants to work abroad, especially the country Japan.
After they share their experiences, the next OJT’s who shared their experienced from their internship was another three students from tourism management who went abroad for their internship. The first one shared her experience from Taiwan. She said that during her internship in Taiwan, no one really trained or taught her how to operate the system and how to be a front office. She literally emphasize that in Taiwan where she work, they just let her be and let her do her job as she wants, if a guest has any issue or problems, they let her do the job on how to solve it, not like here in the Philippines where our managers or the employee train us on how to properly navigate the front office system and how to deal with the guest.
The next OJT shared his experience in his work in Thailand. He shared that the people in Thailand or where he works at, thinks that if you’re a Filipino it means you already know everything. The reason why he said that because when he started working, all the task or any task that are needed to do, he’s the one who will do it. In short, he is all around in his workplace. So, everything that needs to be done and if he can do it, they will assign it to him. That’s why he was an all-around intern in his workplace because his superiors thinks that if you’re a Filipino, you can do anything and everything.
The last OJT was also a Tourism student, but she shared to us that even though she was a Tourism student, she was still task to be a bartender, which was ironic because tourism students doesn’t ave any knowledge about bartending or mixing any drinks. She works in Taiwan too, the same company of the first girl who work as a front desk office. She shared to us that she didn’t really have any experience or knowledge about bartending and mixing drinks, yet luckily her superiors taught her how to mix the drinks since there is list of the ingredients of each type of drinks. Along the way she got familiarized on how to mix already, so eventually her superiors leave her side already and do it by herself alone. She also shared her experience in housekeeping department, where they have a to clean 13 rooms each day and if they won’t be able to clean 13 rooms before their shifts end, they must have an OT or overtime in order to achieve the 13 rooms.
After sharing their experiences on working abroad, our instructor then started the real orientation of our OJT. She tackled about the documents that needed to be submitted in the end of our 4th year 2nd semester. She explained why we need endorsement letter from our university. She also showed us the format of the documents or letter that need to be submitted. She also tackled about why it’s important to start our internship early, to avoid getting removed in the list of graduates. She also shared some different situations where the interns were removed on the company where they work at. In the last part, she answered some common question that are asked during the orientation.
It was around 12 noon when our orientation ended. We went to our designated line since the time out of our attendance will be by section. After the time out, my friends and I went home immediately and ate my lunch in my grandma’s “karenderya”. After I finish eating my lunch, my cousin asks for some help. He asks me to find a flower shop near us in the marketplace because it will be his girlfriends’ graduation soon and he is planning to give her some flowers. When we found a flower shop, I immediately message it for inquiries and ask for some actual photo of the flower we wanted. It was around 4 pm when my cousin finally decided what flower she wants to give, so we immediately went to the flower shop’s location to pay our downpayment, since we must pay for the downpayment in order for us to reserve a flower and also for us to know where their flower shop is located.
It was around 5 pm when we finished our business in the flower shop, so we went to pier 88 to grab some snacks and stay there for a while. When we arrived in pier 88, we need to pay 10 pesos for the entrance and park to the designated parking place. We then started roaming around to find a stall where we want to eat. We found a sushi stall, so we decided to buy 5 pieces with different prices. After that, we then started looking for the drinks that we want and luckily the stall of where we bought a drink has a camping chairs and tables, so we decided to eat our food there. My cousin paid for the sushi, and I paid for our drinks. W e stayed there for a couple of minutes and when it started to get dark, we did leave the place.
So, that’s it for my blog today and how our pre-orientation for on-the-job training went. I hope you find it fun and support it! Thank you and lots of love hivers<3<3<3
