A weekee-greeting to all Hivers!! Today I will tell you about one of those unforgettable once in a lifetime moments that probably many of you had around my age. As the title says, it is time for me to say goodbye to my High-schooler self and start a new and effort demanding phase.
First I will explain why I said graduation in plural in the title. When I was finishing 11th grade at my normal Highschool among my friends from elementary school, I found out with a friend of my mom that there was a special school called the University College of University of Havana for people that loved pure sciences that really wished to study and get ready for University at an early stage. In a few words, the possibility to course the last year of Highschool as a preparation year for a science career, with teachers that have worked at University. And it was AT the same University (this one being the University of Havana), meaning I could be in its ambient and meet people with the same professional interests as me. But as I said, you could only course it if you wanted to study a career related to pure sciences, these ones being Math, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. So I had a graduation at the University College and a graduation at my native Highschool.
What I actually wanted to study as a career was Animation but aside from the fact it doesn't exist in Cuba, I thought it was better to learn it empirically, since it's something easy for me to learn and improve. I thought of Graphics Design, Art Direction and Computer Science as possible choices, but I didn't want this opportunity of the preparation year to go to waste; the education system here is technically in ruins and the level has been decreasing more every year since the pandemic. The only thing that wasn't really affected by the decadence was the University and everything related to it. I wanted a reason to study, and to like doing it. So I decided to go with Pure Mathematics.
Every 11th grader was able to do the exams for the inscription on each of the faculties but the difficulty of them marked the difference between the determined and the undetermined ones. On my subject, me and the 20 other candidates passed the test. During the first months of the course though some of them eventually realized Math was not what they wanted, or they missed their previous schools, or they didn't like the change of environment, and left. By the time of the first period exams we were only 9, me being the only girl in the class.
The six boys that made it through 12th grade at the University College with me, one of them being @yasdielalejandro, are getting ready for this new phase as well. Unfortunately, they will be selected for social or military service and will be forced to start University a year later than usual.
My graduation at the University College was not actually a "graduation", it was a commemoration for making it all through the year. But since I considered it the best time of my student life so far and I felt most of my current knowledge actually formed there I declared it my official graduation UwU (wish my Bachelor title actually says I was graduated there instead of having been graduated on my school...)
It took place at the "Magna" classroom of the University, truly a honor to be in there, it felt so good.
There were some motivational and beautiful speeches, from the teachers as well as from some students.
Also, I got mentioned for being the one with the highest academic results in the Math faculty. Totally unexpected :D!
My teachers were proud of all of us and we thanked them from our hearts for their patience, their knowledge, their kindness, their support, their effort, their love.
And the one from my native Highschool was celebrated literally a day later, at a cinema located really close to the University of Havana.
I was really happy to see all my childhood friends again united and we enjoyed together the activities and acting the same students of 12th grade prepared for the show.
It was fun, really crazy, full of screams of joys and loud music. You can see the big difference between both graduations here XD
Then we signed our uniforms and write cute phrases on them.
Before returning home we decided to go in group around many places there in Vedado, even ate pizza at a cafeteria. I gave them a tour inside the University of Havana so they could see it for the first time :3
By the way, if you find a post somewhere in Hive similar to this one that's a total coincidence :) I have no idea who would post something related to this experience of mine...
(I loved the stone mom <3)
Anyways, hope you liked this post and didn't get bored, read you on the next one :D!
