I would like to take you on a walk for #wednesdayWalk with me on a very cold icy day in the Montreal plateau where we live. Today we looked out and saw a little snow for the first time this year.
This is the area we have always wanted to live in and we always lived close to here. Two months ago we moved to a location that we could have only dreamed of. This is where the action was when we were not in prison. This street is a main artery, where when we were free, there were bars, restaurants and numerous shops open selling anything from pastries to vintage clothing, designer clothing, furniture. Well the shops for the most part are open and some eateries are doing takeout.
My boss just opened a little vegan sandwich shop attached to the restaurant where we work. They are doing well so far. We happen to live across the street from this building so my walk will start with a visit to the shop to say hello to my co workers who have to work while Marc and I have the day off.
This is the sandwich shop with many people gathered waiting for the stoplight or the bus.
The sandwich shop has a Mexican theme. The owner is from Mexico and his head chef is also from Mexico.
I dropped by to say hello to the chef and she opened the front window. I told her she would get cold but she said it was really hot in there.
We had a brief chat then continued on our walk in the gray cold that had a trickle of sun in the sky.
Like many large cities Montreal has quite a few building murals which we find pretty strange for the most part.
This is Leonard Cohen who was a legendary poet and songwriter. He had a house down the street from here. We met him when he was alive and it was so thrilling. His picture is every where in town. This is the city where he was born.
We see quite a lot of these murals that have weird creature people that look like they are on hard drugs. We don't understand the inspiration for this.
I have seen so many murals in this city and many others around the world but never have I witnessed anyone ever producing these. When is it being done. It reminds me of the crop circles.
There is a little park around the corner which is nice for children and adults as well. It's too cold to make use of the cool lounging area but the children get to wear snow suits so they don't care.
This corner store is legendary and has been one of the hippest places in Montreal for years. Why? This leads to a park where a ritual tam tam drum circle has been taking place for decades and that is where everyone stops to get their party supplies. Of course now it's not happening because we're freezing among other reasons.
This street had a charm of it's own when the city was allowed to express itself with quaint and cool businesses. The knick knack store on the corner has been there for a while and still remains open.
They have some antiques and retro items. It's jammed with all kinds of things but really it's not all that. I am happy they are still open unlike so many other places that have given up.
Along this street is a hair dresser that has a few Bengal cats that I have to see when I walk by. It seems that they are always in this window.
They were looking very peaceful. I remember them when they were tiny kittens in the window.
I kind of wish I could be a sleepy Bengal cat in a window with out a care in the world. Well I guess sometimes it's rough when they don't get fed the treat that they want.
Well now we can't stand the cold anymore so home we go.
Thank you for joining us!
