Located in the Italian region of Umbria, a few kilometers from the city of Terni, the Marmore waterfall is an authentic natural attraction and each year attracts tens of thousands of tourists, lovers of nature and its wonderful spectacles. The waterfalls are created by the Velino river that springs from the lake of Piedi luci, near the hamlet of Marmore, a name that derives from the presence of sodium carbonate particles on the rocks and, especially when there is the sun, the light reflects on them. causing a shimmer, marble-like effect.
It is possible to admire the waterfall from two large panoramic points: one located higher up, near the original of the waterfall itself and the other lower point, at the end of the same. Depending on the viewpoint chosen, there are different routes to reach the site. The waterfalls are used by man for the production of electricity and are not always active, so I advise you to inform yourself before going on site. The opening of the falls is always preceded by a sound warning that invites tourists to be attentive and ready for the arrival of the water!
Although all tourists are at a safe distance, it is advisable to equip yourself with raincoats because you will still be greeted by a continuous mist of water that would eventually wet your clothes. Another tip is to wear comfortable shoes, better for tracking, especially if you want to walk along the paths, dampened by water and in some stretches present slippery surfaces.
Furthermore, along the paths it is possible to explore the vegetation, consisting mostly of the Mediterranean scrub with many aquatic plants rich in colorful flowers. The encounters with toads and frogs are very frequent, this is in fact the ideal humid environment in which to live. Everywhere you can hear the chirping of birds, often invisible to the naked eye because they hide and blend perfectly with the dense and luxuriant vegetation.
A truly incredible and unforgettable experience, as well as being tiring for long walks. But nature has the gift of clearing the mind of all kinds of impure thoughts and instilling an inner sense of tranquility and relaxation. The excursion is quite demanding but very pleasant to go in company or even alone, there are many stopping points where you can recover your energy and enjoy nature in all its magical splendor. Definitely a unique experience that I will plan to do again in the coming years
