A bath is self care, right? A glass of wine with friends is good, right? It's wonderful to meditate, yeah?
The answer depends on WHY you're taking that action. Let me explain.
If you're doing the thing in order to connect with your truest self,
or connect deeply with another,
or because it genuinely brings you joy or real pleasure then it's probably supporting more CONNECTION.
But I'd you're doing it to escape,
or "switch off",
or distract yourself
you're actually DISCONNECTING.
Now, this is not a hate message on activities that cause you to disconnect. Maybe you need those activities to help you cope.
Maybe you need to switch off because your emotions about a particular things are so big you fear they would overwhelm you.
Please, keep doing the things you need to do to take care of yourself
AND...
notice when you're doing things to disconnect.
Bring awareness to that action.
As you drink that glass of wine, or watch your third Netflix show for the night, or read another chapter of that novel
maybe take a moment to ponder 🤔
"What am I trying to escape from?"
Awareness is the first key to change.
If you genuinely want your life to improve, to have more peace, more joy, more vitality and more deep belly laughs,
then I invite you to get curious
and see if you're tuning in
or tuning out.
