The reason I started my post with this topic is because I watched a vlog earlier today from a lobster fisherman. In the video, he explained that he started vlogging because lobster fishing is a physically demanding job, and he hopes to retire early. Although he enjoys what he does, he fears that the physical strain will eventually damage his body, leaving him to suffer during his retirement years. Many people in physically demanding jobs face similar outcomes, often dealing with arthritis and other joint issues in their later years if they even make it that far.
The fisherman shared that this fear comes from witnessing the experiences of his father and grandfather, both of whom were also lobster fishermen. They began experiencing serious health problems as early as their 50s, which is relatively young by today’s standards. Years of hard labor left them with long-term health conditions. That is why he wants to retire as soon as he can to enjoy a better quality of life in his later years.
