XXI, also known as the 21st Olympics were held in Montreal Quebec, in 1976. As mentioned previously, there were quite a few stamps issued to commemorate this event. About 36 stamps in all — wow, that is a ton! I am not going to show all of them, but for today we have the $1 and $2 stamps, showcasing local architecture. On the $1 we have Notre Dame church and Place Ville Marie. On the $2 is the actual Olympic stadium, which can accommodate up to 70,000 spectators! The multipurpose Velodrome is next door.
The 8 + 2 stamp was part of an initiative to raise money for the Olympics. The face value being 8 cents with a 2 cent surcharge going to support the games. Pretty interesting huh? Thanks for stopping by.
