Yesterday morning after I got the boys to school and my clothes washed my buddy stopped by to pickup the tent to borrow and bring me my tree climbing gear back. We had a good visit and he is going to be doing a 30 mile ski trip along the Kettle Crest this weekend, which is why he needs the tent. The weather is super mellow now so he should have pretty easy going for much of it. Now that he has dialed in his kit to lighten the load a lot he should have a much better time. If my body weren't in such a state of disrepair I would be on the trip with him.
I got my third book and this is the one. It is a full textbook and now between the three I should have all the info I need for the written test. I WILL have them fully read and I plan to be prepared to take the written at any point. If I can maximize time flying over ground school then all the better.
I was ruminating about my old power kite. I killed it a few years ago in North Dakota, it caught on a stick in the field as I tried to launch it and ripped a part of it.
The leading edge got torn back from the end and essentially killed 4 cells. The two outer lines attach to those cells and with the one side trashed the kite won't fly right at all. I had left it to maybe fix someday but after pulling it out and laying it on the floor I decided to just hack it down.
I took my scissors and cut the end 4 cells off the kite. The 2 lines got cut from the bridle then I copied it on the other side.
The kite now is even but the kite won't be nearly as strong as it was for now. Inside the cells the baffles between each have ports to allow the air to fill the cells evenly. The end cells now have ports which will reduce the ability of the kite to hold the full pressure of air. I need to sew the end flaps down to make the ends solid which should bring the kite back up to close to original power capability. I have to watch for a moderate wind to go give it a try. At least I am not throwing the kite away, it should still have some life left in it.
While we were getting dinner made monkey boy started climbing the door jam and managed to get himself to the top where he was able to grab onto the catwalk overhead. It took him a bit to figure out his feet and knee positions to better hold him in place. He wanted to do drop knees a lot but that doesn't make it easier to keep the feet planted.
Once he put his shoes on it was a good bit easier for him.
Next he tried one of our tests as young climbers. You sit in a chair then go head first through the legs, up around over the back of the seat, and sit back down in the chair all without your body ever touching the floor. It is a seriously tough thing to figure out and takes a shit ton of core strength and flexibility. He was able to get his hands grabbing the sides of the back of the chair but couldn't figure out how to swap the feet and legs to hold him on. The tiny chair makes it a bit more difficult than a full size but it is his size chair. It gives him a good goal to figure out.
Today I need to try and excavate the pile of wood chips so I can maybe spread some if they aren't a solid block of ice. The birds are in needs of some mud remediation so hopefully the rains and warmer temps have the pile loose enough to work with. I have two weeks until my surgery and have to try and temper the pain until then which ibuprofen is sort of managing for now.
