Travelling to my village wasn't in my mind at all, but the lockdown warranted it. Though it wasn't a bad idea, I have some regrets and happy moments. Please permit me to share only the happy moments.
The Journey
The journey was smooth, with double feelings of anticipating how the village will look like and how long we are going to stay. Going with my wife, who has always love the village because of easy access to fruits and other produce, I wasn't having a dull moment, as she keep telling me about how affordable life in the village is.
For the record, I'm from Nkwot Ikono village in Etim Ekpo L.G.A of Akwa Ibom state, here in Nigeria.
My sisters also came around
Arrival
On arrival, we received a cheering welcome from relatives and neighbors. The last time I visited is five years ago, so I wasn't surprise of how different I looked before villages. Almost everyone said I have gained weight, look more handsome, etc. It was the first time they saw my wife and congratulations roll in in numbers.
The Experience
The food stuff here are cheap as usual, compared to Port Harcourt where we reside. People bring different things to us, ranging from mango, pumpkin leaves, water leaves, yam, to mention but a few.
I enjoy the natural serenity of my village. I can sit down and watch birds flying and singing, squirrels jumping from tree to tree and local fowls guiding their chicks.
Here, you don't need alarm to know it's daybreak because the cockcrow comes by 5a.m on the dot. These animals don't miss in their assignment.
The village is a beautiful place for vacation, especially in a time like this.
