Friction, disagreement, clumsiness, and a sense of impending trouble all tell you it would have been best to just stay home.
And where are we at now in areas of lockdown for those who can't even leave their home? Days without grease certainly still exist whether you're supposed to go out or not.
What do I mean exactly by no grease? It's how I feel sometimes when nothing goes smooth. Nothing at all. From the first cup of coffee that you somehow make wrong in the morning (despite having made it a thousand times) to tense interactions with other people.
Where's the grease? Need some LUBE over here!!
Tripping The Fuse Between Synapses
Though it feels like every motion is a grinding gear, grease and machinery really have nothing to do with it. There's no way every other person in the world experiences the same resistance on the same day.
A better description of the ailment addresses the individual brain. Perhaps fatigue has set in. It could be 'going through the motions" that gets to anyone who has to do the same task day in, day out.
It's like going to grab your car keys and one has somehow lodged itself inside another key. Because of its position, you're unable to insert it all the way to start your car. So you sit there for minutes trying to figure how your car keys turned into Chinese Linking Rings.
These days go Bzzzzzzttt, then produce a faint smell of smoke coming out of each ear. Your eyes look but your feet don't step where you tell them to land. Words come from your mouth but don't clarify what you intended to say.
Pulling Out Of The Nosedive
Wind rushes past your wings as you pull up on the stick with all your might. Some days the nose of the plane pulls up. Other days the engines are out completely and it feels like a free fall.
People pull all your triggers. Not a moment of the day is spent where you want to be. Physical motions are strenuous at best. Atypical things go wrong which are troublesome, and can rarely be dealt with at the time.
The Show Must Go On
Two things I'm sure of in life:
"There's no crying in baseball". (Tom Hanks - A League Of There Own)
"There's no stopping in concrete." (Every person that ever worked concrete)
Rules are made to broken but it's not really a game if you cry. And it's not a solid concrete foundation of it has cold joint.
What do these things have to do with missing grease or burnt synapses? Neither life or work stops when these days rear their ugly head. I tried crying about them and I have yet to be able to stop a concrete crew from finishing their work.
When all is said and done, the best answer to salty rusty days is to bust your ass. Then get home to some food and rest and lay your head down to sleep.
If you have any better ideas on how to handle them, I'm all ears.
Thanks for reading and as always...
