Hoy es víspera de navidad, nos preparamos para la noche buena, la llegada de Santa Claus, el Niño Jesús o el Niño Dios. Esta fecha tiene un significado muy especial porque llega como bálsamo para nuestras dolencias luego de este año tan duro y atípico que nos ha tocado vivir.
Today is Christmas Eve, we prepare for the good night, the arrival of Santa Claus, the Baby Jesus or the Baby God. This date has a very special meaning because it arrives as a balm for our ailments after this hard and atypical year that we have had to live.
El día de hoy celebramos la vida y todo aquello que a simple vista parece insignificante pero que irónicamente ha sido de nuestras mayores carencias en los últimos meses. El amor, el cariño y la unión con nuestros familiares y amigos son ahora tesoros invaluables que resguardaremos en lo más profundo del corazón de cada uno.
Today we celebrate life and everything that at first sight seems insignificant but ironically has been one of our greatest shortcomings in recent months. The love, affection and union with our family and friends are now invaluable treasures that we will keep in the deepest part of our hearts.
Hoy fui testigo de eso que me gusta llamar “La magia de la Navidad”, afortunadamente hay quienes poseen en abundancia y en contraposición están los que carecen de muchas cosas; se trató de dos personas que bien podrían ser ejemplo de cada una de estas circunstancias, tuvieron entre sí un acto de amor y humanidad que, aunque fue mínimo, fue sin duda maravilloso.
Today I witnessed what I like to call "The magic of Christmas", fortunately there are those who possess in abundance and in contrast there are those who lack many things; it was about two people who could well be an example of each of these circumstances, they had an act of love and humanity between them that, although it was minimal, was undoubtedly wonderful.
Uno de ellos compró un regalo para una pequeñita que iba con él (supongo que su hija o nieta), ellos formaban parte de las muchas personas que les compraban regalos a sus hijos; el otro iba pasando y su chiquitín fijó la mirada de inmediato en los regalos, volteó a ver a su padre y este no pudo sostenerla. Cuando el niño casi se resignaba a no recibir regalo alguno (con una tristeza palpable en su mirada) el otro le obsequió un pequeño presente al niño.
One of them bought a gift for a little girl who was with him (I suppose his daughter or granddaughter), they were part of the many people who bought gifts for their children; the other was passing by and his little boy immediately looked at the gifts, turned to see his father and he could not hold her. When the child was almost resigned to not receiving any gift (with a palpable sadness in his eyes) the other gave the child a small gift.
La tristeza se esfumó de su mirada y fue sustituida por la alegría, casi tan igual a la del padre de este niño quien no tardó en agradecer el acto de nobleza y generosidad. Ambos siguieron sus caminos y todos con una sonrisa en la cara, uno sonreía sintiéndose bien consigo mismo (según lo que yo creo) y el otro sonreía por ver feliz a su hijo (aunque sospecho que también había algo de gratitud y conmoción en su sonrisa).
The sadness vanished from his gaze and was substituted by joy, almost as much as that of this child's father who was quick to thank him for the act of nobility and generosity. Both followed their paths and all with a smile on their faces, one smiling feeling good about himself (as I believe) and the other smiling to see his son happy (although I suspect there was also some gratitude and shock in his smile).
Al presenciar todo esto entendí cuál es el verdadero significado y sentido de esta época. Se trata de dar, compartir y ser solidario con aquellos que menos tienen. Se trata también de valorar y ser agradecidos, apreciar las cosas pequeñas, como aquel acto de solidaridad que les relato, aunque parezca insignificante fue tan puro, genuino y poderoso que cambió para mejor el día de al menos 4 personas.
Witnessing all this made me understand what the true meaning and significance of this era is. It is about giving, sharing and being in solidarity with those who have less. It's also about valuing and being grateful, appreciating the little things, like that act of solidarity that I tell you about, even though it seems insignificant, was so pure, genuine and powerful that it changed the day of at least 4 people for the better.
Ese es el poder que tiene la magia de la navidad que reside, como verán, en gestos mínimos y muchas veces inapreciables.
That is the power of the magic of Christmas that resides, as you will see, in minimal and often invaluable gestures.
