No siempre todo puede ser bonito, y en definitiva en la carrera nos vamos a encontrar con cosas que odiamos por mucho que nos guste la carrera en general. Les he mencionado varias veces que a veces tiendo a hacer más manualidades o cosas más artísticas que de diseño como tal. Y es que en una materia que se llama historia del diseño y la arquitectura, que de diseño y arquitectura, no tiene mucho, la verdad. La profesora nos manda a hacer cosas muy artísticas; fue en esa materia donde hice lo del puntillismo. Una vez hice un collage que, a mi percepción, no era un collage por ningún lado. Y en esta oportunidad, mi peor enemigo, trabaja con Yeso. Les quiero contar cómo me fue, porque es algo traumático y aún no lo he entregado.

The teacher assigns us very artistic projects; it was in that class that I did the pointillism project. Once I made a collage that, in my opinion, was not a collage at all. And this time, my worst enemy is working with plaster. I want to tell you how it went, because it was traumatic and I still haven't turned it in.

Se supone que para esta actividad deberíamos hacer un tallado el yeso. Ella nos explicó cómo se preparaba la mezcla, y en teoría qué era lo que íbamos a hacer, pero no tuvimos demasiado práctica la verdad. Se supone que teníamos que hacer un tallado de rostro, inspirado en la Roma imperial, y para ello debíamos como inspirarnos en algunas películas. Yo cogí la película Gladiador dos para hacer este tallado. Para ello estuve preparando la mezcla, la cual fue una parte de agua y dos partes de yeso seco. La mezclé y quedó esta consistencia como pasta. Fue todo un caos porque yo no sabía cuál eran las medidas exactas, según la profesora era al ojo por ciento y según TikTok era de la forma que les expliqué. Tampoco sabía que debía ser bastante grueso e hice una placa muy delgada y eso me pasó factura porque tuve que arreglarlo.

We were supposed to carve a face inspired by imperial Rome, and to do that, we had to draw inspiration from some movies. I chose the movie Gladiator 2 to do this carving. To do this, I prepared the mixture, which was one part water and two parts dry plaster. I mixed it and it had a paste-like consistency. It was chaos because I didn't know the exact measurements. According to the teacher, it was by eye, and according to TikTok, it was the way I explained. I also didn't know that it should be quite thick, and I made a very thin plate, which came back to haunt me because I had to fix it.

Después de que deje secar toda esa mezcla, en esa primera placa, para la cual utiliza un molde de una caja de cartón de 20 × 20 cm. Estuve haciendo el tallado, con ayuda de un palillo y un exacto. Obviamente, estoy haciendo la silueta y ya después comencé a tallar bastante y fue un trabajo bastante largo. Se supone que esto tiene que tener muchísima profundidad, pero después de la primera tanda detallada, a mí me dio una gripe, una alergia que aún tengo las consecuencias a una semana exacta de haber hecho eso. Y en estos momentos se supone que lo estoy arreglando, hice un poco más de yeso para poder colocarle a la placa y que tuviese mucha más profundidad y se supone que mañana antes de entregarlo debo seguir detallándolo para que quede un poquito mejor. Yo, la verdad, me di por vencida. Voy a entregar eso así, tal cual estoy enseñando en la última foto, como porque no quiero estresarme más trabajar con el Yeso. Fue una de las peores cosas que he tenido que experimentar y honestamente no quiero volver a repetirlo. Si les gusta el arte, aléjense del yeso, nos leemos pronto!

After I let all that mixture dry on that first plate, for which I used a 20 × 20 cm cardboard box mold, I started carving with the help of a toothpick and an X-Acto knife. Obviously, I'm making the silhouette, and then I started carving quite a bit, and it was quite a long job. This is supposed to have a lot of depth, but after the first detailed batch, I got the flu, an allergy that I still have the consequences of exactly one week after doing that. And right now I'm supposed to be fixing it. I made a little more plaster to put on the plate so it would have a lot more depth, and tomorrow before I turn it in, I'm supposed to keep detailing it so it looks a little better. To be honest, I gave up. I'm going to hand it in as it is, as I'm showing in the last photo, because I don't want to stress myself out any more working with plaster. It was one of the worst things I've ever had to experience and, honestly, I don't want to do it again. If you like art, stay away from plaster. See you soon!
