There are plenty good advice I received personally. Some stick, some don't as the only thing that stick to my brain is the mean biting comment. However, one of the best advice I received was from my own mother. She advised me to always look both ways in life, up and down.
Narrowing down her advice, she meant that we humbled ourselves by looking at others who have less and working hard by looking at others who have and achieved more. This has been my approach to life though I understand that this advice can be a double edge sword.
Why do I say that?
More often, I only look up which caused me to always feel unsatisfied with my achievements in life. I only look down when things go bad in my life and started to realized that I had more than a lot of people my age or people surround me. I was blessed with opportunities and plenty other things that sometimes taken for granted.
I am not good at looking down but my mom has always been the one to remind me the other side of her own advice. She humbled me down by reminding me that I should be grateful because there are people who don't have a job, don't know what to eat next, and etc. This does not mean she invalidates my struggle but to help me put myself back into the grind. From this other side of my mom's advice, so far it helps me sympathize with people who have less and is struggling with their life. It is also why I am often interested in charity works.
Even during my darkest day, this advice has made things a bit more easier. I often think that I am still in a good spot and still have willingness to recover and turn my life around. This because I have met plenty others who seemed as though they were hardly finding the light at the end of their tunnel. So in the end, my mom advice helped me in easing up the struggle I have in life.
