In any part of the world, young children instinctively start eating with their own hands. In some lands, however, children are taught to use different types of food. The use of forks and knives is practiced in almost all Western countries, and the use of chopsticks and eating utensils in East Asian countries is well known.
However, in some parts of the world, including Sri Lanka, there is no longer any special equipment for eating. While a spoon can be used for dessert, most of the times we only use our hands and fingers for food.
Would you agree that it is more useful to eat hand-to-hand food before we start eating it? In addition to the sight and smell sensations that most of us use when trying to grab food with our fingers, we also use the senses of touch before we can taste them. This helps you to understand what the food is about, rather than just seeing and smelling it. Your mind will be able to identify what you are eating before and prepare it.
When you go out to have a meal with someone you don't use forks or when they have a more friendly relationship. Simply put, most families in Sri Lanka rarely get together when they have a meal together. There are plenty of tools, including spoons, for sharing food. But when attending a festival, sometimes when guests come home, they often see the use of spoons and other equipment when visiting a restaurant for a meal. In our culture, when a meal is shared with another person, it is often the person who has a good relationship with someone who knows them well. As a stranger, when we go to a house, even if the table is placed on a table, it is not used to eat at a nearby friend's house.
Even when eating alone, eating hand-to-mouth really does make you feel better about eating, and it feels much more enjoyable than using forks when using handcuffs and meals. Thanks for reading. Be safe always.
