Para ser sincera, considero que el mejor viaje de mi vida aún no ha ocurrido pero sí he realizado unos cuantos viajes que me han dejado recuerdos muy bonitos. A pesar de que nunca he viajado fuera de mi país sí he tenido la oportunidad de recorrer Venezuela y de visitar lugares hermosos, realmente me siento bastante afortunada y agradezco mucho todas estas oportunidades que se me han presentado pues la verdad es que no muchos venezolanos han tenido la oportunidad de viajar dentro del país y de ver con sus propios ojos los paisajes tan hermosos que tenemos.
To be honest, I consider that the best trip of my life has not happened yet but I have made a few trips that have left me with very nice memories. Although I have never traveled outside my country I have had the opportunity to tour Venezuela and visit beautiful places, I really feel quite lucky and I am very grateful for all these opportunities that have come my way because the truth is that not many Venezuelans have had the opportunity to travel within the country and see with their own eyes the beautiful landscapes we have.
Bienvenidos a La Gran Sabana | Welcome to La Gran Sabana
Uno de los viajes que recuerdo con mucho cariño fue aquel que realicé hace unos ocho años en compañía de mi padre y unos primos, visitamos La Gran Sabana y tuvimos la oportunidad de hospedarnos durante unos cuantos días en el Parque Nacional Canaima (sí, visitamos también la Laguna de Canaima…esa que tiene las tres palmeras). Lamentablemente todas las fotografías de este gran viaje no las tengo respaldadas en mi laptop se encuentran en la memoria de mi computadora de escritorio que aún están reparando, pero aun así en esta publicación les mostraré algunas fotografías que compartí en un post hace mucho tiempo, algunas que se encuentran en mis redes sociales y otras que guardo en físico. Esta creo que será una publicación un poco larga, así que espero no aburrirlos y que disfruten leerme.
One of the trips that I remember very fondly was the one I took about eight years ago in the company of my father and some cousins. We visited the Gran Sabana and had the opportunity to stay for a few days in Canaima National Park (yes, we also visited the Canaima Lagoon... the one with the three palms). Unfortunately all the pictures of this great trip are not backed up on my laptop and are still in the memory of my desktop computer which is still being repaired, but even so in this publication I will show you some pictures that I shared in a post a long time ago, some that are in my social networks and others that I keep in physical. This one will be a bit long, so I hope you don't get bored and enjoy reading me.
Mi padre organizó este viaje con un motivo en particular: su prima-hermana (contemporánea de edad con él) le quedaba muy poco tiempo de vida. Ella había sido diagnosticada con cáncer un par de años anteriores y uno de sus deseos era poder realizar este viaje, así que apenas mi padre tuvo la oportunidad puso en marcha todo para poder realizar este viaje. Para ese entonces mi prima tenía ciertas dolencias y malestares producto de sus tratamientos, pero eso no le impidió realizar este largo recorrido.
My father organized this trip for one particular reason: his cousin-sister (a contemporary with him) had very little time left to live. She had been diagnosed with cancer a couple of years before and one of her wishes was to be able to make this trip, so as soon as my father had the opportunity he set everything in motion to be able to make this trip. At that time my cousin had certain ailments and discomforts as a result of her treatments, but that didn't stop her from making this long journey.
En la imagen anterior te muestro dos fotografías en una: en la imagen superior se visualizan los Tepuyes Wadaka Piapo y Kukenán; la imagen inferior se visualiza parte de la carretera “Troncal 10”. Esta carretera "Troncal 10" es la ruta panorámica por excelencia de Venezuela, ella discurre por sectores de gran belleza paisajista desde donde pueden visualizarse los famosos "tepuyes" que son nada y más y nada menos que mesetas cuya formación rocosa data de aproximadamente 1700 millones de años.
In the previous image I show you two pictures in one: the upper image shows the Wadaka Piapo and Kukenán Tepuis; the lower image shows part of the "Troncal 10" road. This "Troncal 10" road is the panoramic route par excellence of Venezuela, it runs through sectors of great scenic beauty from where you can see the famous "tepuyes" which are nothing less than plateaus whose rocky formation dates from approximately 1700 million years.

This watercourse is located in the camp called: Kamoiran Rapids.
La Gran Sabana se encuentra ubicada dentro del parque Nacional Canaima, al Sur de Venezuela, en el Estado Bolívar. Este lugar es simplemente increíble y posee paisajes únicos en el mundo: inumerables caídas de agua, sabanas extensas con una gran diversidad de flora y fauna y también los maravillosos tepuyes que mencioné anteriormente.
La Gran Sabana is located within the Canaima National Park, in the South of Venezuela, in the Bolivar State. This place is simply incredible and has unique landscapes in the world: countless waterfalls, extensive savannas with a great diversity of flora and fauna and also the wonderful tepuis I mentioned earlier.
Este hermoso lugar que te muestro aquí es La Quebrada de Jaspe y es una de mis favoritas. Su nombre se debe a que todo este piso es de una piedra semi-preciosa cuyo nombre es Jaspe. Debo acotar que este piso es bastante resbaloso, incluso en la entrada del lugar te indican que debes de caminar con mucha cautela para evitar accidentes.
This beautiful place I show you here is La Quebrada de Jaspe and it is one of my favorites. Its name is because this whole floor is made of a semi-precious stone whose name is Jasper. I must point out that this floor is quite slippery, even at the entrance of the place indicate that you should walk very carefully to avoid accidents.
Otro de los lugares que visitamos, y que también es uno de mis favoritos, fue La Quebrada Pacheco. Para llegar hasta acá tuvimos que caminar durante unos 40 minutos y realmente no sabíamos si llegaríamos al lugar. Tal como se aprecia en la siguiente foto panorámica, el terreno era completamente plano y la vegetación era un poco "seca" por decirlo de algún modo, sin mencionar que en ese momento el cielo estaba completamente despejado y el sol se encontraba más radiante que nunca.
Another place we visited, and which is also one of my favorites, was La Quebrada Pacheco. To get here we had to walk for about 40 minutes and we really didn't know if we would get there. As you can see in the following panoramic photo, the terrain was completely flat and the vegetation was a bit "dry" to say the least, not to mention that at that time the sky was completely clear and the sun was more radiant than ever.
Pero luego de esa larga caminata (y para nuestra sorpresa) llegamos a nuestro destino. Nos quedamos sumamente impresionados ante la belleza de este lugar, pues parecía uno de esos lugares que solamente podemos ver en alguna postal.
But after that long walk (and to our surprise) we arrived at our destination. We were extremely impressed by the beauty of this place, since it seemed like one of those places that we can only see on a postcard.
That little white thing you see here is me floating in those beautiful cold waters.

Recuerdo que para nuestro viaje no teníamos planificado visitar la Laguna de Canaima, pues ella se encuentra bastante adentrada hacia todo este Parque Nacional por lo que no existen carreteras que lleguen hasta ella y la única forma de acceder es vía aérea. Recuerdo que recibimos la inesperada llamada de otro primo, él nos avisó que había gestionado todo para que nosotros llegáramos hasta allá, nuestros pasajes ya estaba comprados y nuestra reserva de habitaciones en la posada ya estaba planificada.
I remember that for our trip we had not planned to visit the Canaima Lagoon, since it is quite deep into this National Park, so there are no roads that reach it and the only way to access it is by air. I remember that we received an unexpected call from another cousin, he told us that he had arranged everything for us to get there, our tickets were already bought and our reservation of rooms at the inn was already planned.
En este lugar a parte de encontrarse esta maravillosa y reconocida laguna, existen muchos saltos de agua a los que se pueden visitar y les paso el dato: estábamos muy cerca del Salto Ángel. En nuestros planes estaba visitarlo, pero el clima no estuvo muy a nuestro favor y no pudimos cumplir este objetivo. También hay unas cuantas posadas, hay un banco para poder retirar dinero en efectivo y, por supuesto, el Aeropuerto del Parque Nacional Canaima.
In this place, apart from this wonderful and recognized lagoon, there are many waterfalls that can be visited and I will pass on the information: we were very close to Angel Falls. We had planned to visit it, but the weather was not in our favor and we could not fulfill this objective. There are also a few posadas, a bank to withdraw cash and of course the Canaima National Park Airport.
Esta laguna puede ser recorrida en una canoa (cosa que por supuesto hicimos, jaja). Hay siete cascadas en total que dan vida a la formación de esta laguna: Golondrina, Wadaima, Ukaima, El Hacha y el Salto El Sapo. También tuvimos la oportunidad de caminar por detrás de la cortina de agua de el Salto El Sapo...esta fue una experiencia súper agradable. Una cosa que llamó mucho mi atención fue esa formación de una espuma en el agua, esto se debe a la saponina (molécula que es soluble en agua y que al ser agitada en solución genera espuma).
This lagoon can be crossed in a canoe (which of course we did, haha). There are seven waterfalls in total that give life to the formation of this lagoon: Golondrina, Wadaima, Ukaima, El Hacha and Salto El Sapo. We also had the opportunity to walk behind the water curtain at El Sapo Falls...this was a super nice experience. One thing that caught my attention was the formation of a foam in the water, this is due to saponin (a molecule that is soluble in water and when shaken in solution generates foam).

Ese es el paisaje que teníamos desde nuestra posada y ahí, en la foto, esas tres figuras diminutas somos mi primo Chicho, mi prima Angelina y yo...ellos son los hijos de mi prima, aquella que ahora nos cuida desde el cielo.
This photo is one of my favorites, it's a bit pixelated because I rescued it from my social networks. That's the landscape we had from our inn and there, in the photo, those three tiny figures are my cousin Chicho, my cousin Angelina and me...they are the children of my cousin, the one who now takes care of us from heaven.
El regreso fue un poco accidentado. No recuerdo el motivo, pero hubo un error con mi boleto de avión, el de mi papá y el de su novia. Así que mis primos partieron en el avión correspondiente y nosotros nos quedamos, lo loco fue que terminamos viajando en una avioneta de carga jajaja...¡fue súper extraño!
Este sin duda fue un gran viaje...estuvo repleto de muchas risas y de momentos divertidos que nunca olvidaré, pero sobretodo lo que más feliz nos hizo fue poder regalarle a mi prima un momento distinto antes de que ella partiera de este mundo.
The return was a little bumpy. I don't remember why, but there was a mistake with my plane ticket, my dad's and his girlfriend's. So my cousins left in the corresponding plane and we stayed, the crazy thing was that we ended up traveling in a cargo plane hahaha...it was super strange!
This was undoubtedly a great trip...it was full of many laughs and funny moments that I will never forget, but above all what made us happiest was being able to give my cousin a different moment before she left this world.
