India is one of the countries with the most snake species. Although no one has ever encountered a snake that has left veterinarians dumbfounded, zoos have been established specifically for this type of animal in the Asian country.
The Uttarakhand State Forest Department was notified that a strange snake had been discovered: it was a cobra with two heads. The department's experts stated that they had never seen anything like this before.
The snake, analyzed by various experts
One of the department's employees, Adil Mirza, told the Hindustan Times that "I've never seen anything like it in my 15 years of snake research. It's an extremely rare snake."
Mirza added that the cobra species was unusual and that its length (45 cm) indicated that it had been born only a few weeks previously. The snake was taken to an animal rescue center right away.
After analyzing the snake, a wildlife expert from the Wildlife Institute, Vipul Maurya, remarked, "So far, I have not found any example of this type in the state." Bicephaly is another name for this condition, which is caused by a genetic mutation. "We don't know much about these snakes."
