Soon to be his new home, my son and I were walking along and getting acquainted with the campus of Virginia Tech when in the distance I spied an interesting flowering tree. As it turns out, this was a Japanese tree lilac. Well to my ears this sounds a little backwards. In other words it seems like this tree should be called a Japanese lilac tree, however every place I looked for information on this species, it is called a Japanese tree lilac for what it's worth lol.
Now the Japanese tree lilac is an entirely novel tree to me. Having lived most of my life in Michigan, I was of course very familiar with the lilac bush, but I had never even heard of a lilac tree. Perhaps the Michigan winters were too brutal for the Japanese tree lilac, but now having seen one I intend to plant some of these trees on my lot that I am working towards building my house on.
Online, all of the information about the Japanese tree lilac speaks of white or creamy colored flowers, however to my eyes this specimen had nearly yellow looking flowers, but I suppose they could pass as creamy white. Of course as one would expect with a standard lilac bush, the flowers were particularly fragrant and pleasant if not quite strong and almost overwhelming!
I hope your Tuesday was a good one and your hump day will be even better!
