Hello community ,my name is @ovipraise and to day let me share with you my activity of the day. I went to farm in preparation towards beans planting.
It is about time of the year or season of planting iron beans. Beans is a grain seed that is a very rich source of protein.
It is prepared in many forms for consumption. Beans can be planted at different season depending on the variety. In particular my farm is prepared for the planting of iron beans. Iron beans comes in black and white or brown color.
It is grown mostly at the northern Nigeria because of its climatic condition. Beans are grown towards the end of rainy season in Nigeria. The reason is that too much rainfall can have a negative impact on the beans therefore the last three months of the rainy season is the best for most Northern part of Nigeria. Before planting your beans it is important to select viable seed from mixed population making sure that the once to be planted are good seeds.
It is best planted between the month of July and august. Though beans can be grown all year when irrigation is practice, it is best planted at end of rainy season. I have join other farmers to visit my farm and clear out weeds in preparation for planting. Planting iron beans is done by this procedure ; Land preparation. This takes place when a suitable farm is secured. It is done by cutting some herbage crops, grasses, and shrubs that would interfere with smooth planting. It can be done manually using cutlass or mechanized.
This is followed by tillage: the manipulation of soil in preparation of planting. It also refer to the turning and mixing of soil to make it soft for planting. There are different type of tillage practice; Minimal tillage, a situation where the soil is tiled with minimal disturbance of soil. Zero tillage; a process where the soil is not tiled at all, crops are planted directly on the soil. Total tillage; a process where the soil is tiled completely before planting. I have decided to settle for zero tillage due to the hardness of the soil which is one factor that brings about zero tillage. In addition the cost involved for total tillage by laborers which I bargain was much so I decided to spray herbicides on the farm to kill off grasses before planting.
Next is planting of the beans and hoping to do that in the next three days when the grasses are wilted and die off given access to planting without much obstruction.
