Voting bots... a hot topic on our blockchain. Were there times without voting bots? Were there times when no action was taken against them? Either way: I won't be using any more. I'll explain why here.

Voting bots... ein Dauerbrenner auf unserer Blockchain. Gab es Zeiten ohne Voting Bots? Gab es Zeiten, in welchen nicht dagegen vorgegangen wurde? Egal wie: ich werde keine mehr nutzen. Warum erkläre ich dir hier.

Suggestion to some whales and down-voters:

Vorschlag an manche Wale und Down-Voter:

Solltest du etwas gegen Voting-Bots haben und andere Hivians deswegen downvoten wollen, hier mein Vorschlag: speichere dir diesen Artikel doch als Favorit ab und sende dem User doch diesen Artikel als sanfte Warnung oder Hinweis, dass man sich mit der Nutzung von Voting-Bots leicht oder schnell selber schaden kann. Eine solche Erklärung mag unserer Blockchain manchmal besser tun, als die Profile durch Downvotes auszulöschen und die Accountinhaber damit von der Blockchain zu verjagen. Persönliches Wachstum, Wissen und Weisheit, statt Zerstörung. Nur ein Vorschlag...

It is important for me to emphasize:

I am not taking a pro or con position here. I am not interested in rating or judging anyone. I just want to share my new perspective with you so that you can think about what is good for you. That's my goal: what's best for you. And what is best for you is up to you.

There are certainly several reasons for and against voting bots. I don't want to discuss them all here - enough articles and comments have already been written on this. What I do want to do, however, is make my personal decision known. This has nothing to do with good or bad. But read for yourself:

Ich beziehe hier keine Pro- oder Kontra-Stellung. Mein Interesse ist es nicht, irgendjemanden zu bewerten oder zu richten. Ich möchte dir nur meine neue Perspektive mitteilen, damit du darüber nachdenken kannst, was gut für dich ist. Das ist mein Ziel: das Beste für dich. Wie das Beste für dich aussieht, das entscheidest du.

Es gibt gewiss mehrere Gründe pro und kontra Voting Bots. Ich will hier nicht alle erörtern - dazu wurden bereits genug Artikel und Kommentare geschrieben. Was ich aber will, ist meine persönliche Entscheidung kundtun. Diese hat nichts mit gut oder böse zu tun. Aber lese selbst:

I don't use voting bots anymore because:

Using voting services might make curators less willing to curate you. And because the reward of a voting service is not extremely high (there is no @CryptoCompany voting service that has ever brought you several hundred, even thousand percent ROI [BUT other awesome services!]), I believe that it brings me more if I don't use the services. And I almost think I can give you proof of that. More on that later.

Because look, the real reward isn't the 2.5 HTU that a voting service gives you under an article. Because 50% of that goes to the curators anyway. So it's 1.25 HTU for the author. But how much do you pay for the service? 1.1 USD? Okay, that would be an increase in value of 10 to 15%. And 10% is a hell of a lot in one week (from usage to reward)!

But in the end, is that 0.15 HTU gain worth scaring off curators who have multiple HTUs up their sleeve? Many curators don't like voting services. Besides, isn't it better for the curators to consider the quality of the items “undervalued” instead of encountering voting bots? But with voting bots you disturb this ratio.

Ich nutze keine Voting Bots mehr, weil:

Die Nutzung von Voting-Diensten könnte den Willen der Kuratoren verringern, dich zu kuratieren. Und weil die Belohnung eines Voting-Service nicht extrem hoch ist (es gibt je keinen @CryptoCompany Voting Service mehr, welcher dir mehrere hundert, gar tausend Prozent ROI brachte [dafür aber andere coole Services!]), rechne ich damit, dass es mir mehr bringt, wenn ich die Dienste nicht nutze. Und ich glaube fast, dir einen Beweis dafür liefern zu können. Mehr dazu später.

Denn sieh mal, die wirkliche Belohnung sind nicht die 2,5 HTU, die dir ein Voting-Service unter einen Artikel schreibt. Denn 50% davon gehen sowieso an die Kuratoren. Also sind es 1,25 HTU für den Autoren. Aber wie viel bezahlt du für den Service? 1,1 USD? Okay, das wäre ein Wertzuwachs von 10 bis 15%. Und 10% ist verdammt viel innerhalb einer Woche (von der Nutzung bis zur Belohnung)!

Aber sind diese 0,15 HTU Gewinn es am Ende wert, Kuratoren abzuschrecken, welche mehrere HTU in der Hinterhand haben? Viele Kuratoren mögen keine Voting Services. Zudem: ist es nicht besser für die Kuratoren, wenn sie die Qualität der Artikel als „unterbewertet“ ansehen, statt auf Voting-Bots zu stoßen? Aber mit Voting-Bots stört man diese Ratio.

It is also a little questionable to use these services. I don't want to go into the unwritten laws of a few individual whales or big users here, but there have been downvotes again in recent weeks. There were (are) several reasons for this, but in the end it mostly boils down to “this is not legitimate; this is not good for the chain”. And at the end of it all, you can see that all it takes is one whale who doesn't like something and you've already picked up your automatic downvoter. I don't want to go into the social structure on the blockchain in detail here; experienced Hivians know how things work here.

And yes: some voting services are still accepted. At least in the sense that the operators are not being attacked - and currently neither are their users.

At the end of the day: I want my account to be as legitimate as possible. And the wind can change quickly. What is tolerated today may be enough to pin you on the target tomorrow. It only takes one whale to object or seek justification and then... Then your own big goals may become obsolete.

Manche Wale und große User:

Außerdem ist es ein wenig fragwürdig, diese Dienste zu nutzen. Ich will hier jetzt nicht auf die ungeschriebenen Gesetze von einzelnen Walen oder großen Usern eingehen, aber in den letzten Wochen gab es erneut Downvote-Aktionen. Das hat(te) mehrere Gründe - am Ende dreht es sich aber zumeist um "Das ist nicht legitim; das ist nicht gut für die Chain". Und am Ende aller Betrachtungen sieht man: es braucht nur einen Wal, dem irgendwas nicht schmeckt und schon hast du deinen automatischen Downvoter abgeholt. Ich will hier nicht vollumfänglich auf das soziale Gefüge auf der Blockchain eingehen; erfahrene Hivians wissen wie es hier läuft.

Und ja: manche Voting-Services werden noch akzeptiert. Zumindest in dem Sinne, dass die Betreiber dessen nicht angegriffen werden - und aktuell auch noch nicht deren Benutzer.

Am Ende von Allem: ich möchte meinen Account so legitim wie möglich haben. Und der Wind kann sich schnell drehen. Was heute noch toleriert wird, kann morgen ausreichen, um dich auf die Zielscheibe zu pinnen. Es braucht nur einen einzigen Wal, der etwas dagegen hat oder eine Begründung sucht und dann... Dann sind die eigenen großen Ziele eventuell hinfällig.

Is that “cowering”?

I don't see it that way. It's accepting reality and adapting to it. Agitation instead of reaction. It's my act of being able to realize my goals of personal growth and providing @CryptoCompany, instead of becoming someone's toy. I don't see that as a weakness, I see it as a strength. I don't see it as pandering to single whales or powerful users, I see it as pandering to my will to succeed for myself personally, @CryptoCompany and the community behind it. It's not about adapting to and conforming to the current in order to avoid offending anyone. It's about taking the right course on a large scale. Voting bots can help to generate a few HP at the beginning, but at some point they may also become a ballast and an obstacle to further growth.

Metaphorically: it has nothing to do with weakness if you are untrained and don't open your mouth in front of the disco. It has to do with “this doesn't make sense for you”. I could discuss this now with lots of IRL examples and everyone would say “yeah, right”. But I won't, because my posts are always too long to consume comfortably anyway.

Ist das ein "kuschen"?

Das sehe ich nicht so. Es ist die Akzeptanz der Realität und die Adaption daran. Agitation statt Reaktion. Es ist meine Tat, meine Ziele, persönliches Wachstum und die Bereitstellung von @CryptoCompany, umsetzen zu können, statt Spielball von irgendwem zu werden. Das sehe ich nicht als Schwäche, sondern als Stärke. Ich sehe es nicht als Anpassung an einzelne Wale oder manche mächtige User, sondern als Anpassung an meinen Erfolgswillen für mich persönlich, @CryptoCompany und die Gemeinschaft dahinter. Es geht nicht um die Anpassung und Gleichschaltung an und in die Strömung, um möglichst nicht anzuecken. Es geht um den richtigen Kurs im Großen. Voting-Bots können am Anfang helfen, ein paar HP zu generieren, werden irgendwann aber eventuell auch zu einem Ballast und Hindernis für das weitere Wachstum.

Metaphorisch: es hat nichts mit Schwäche zu tun, wenn man untrainiert ist und die Klappe vor der Disco nicht aufreißt. Es hat was mit "das macht keinen Sinn für dich" zu tun. Das könnte ich jetzt mit vielen IRL-Beispielen erörtern und jeder würde sagen "Ja, stimmt". Mache ich aber nicht, da meine Beiträge eh schon immer zu lang sind, um sie angenehm konsumieren zu können.

So let's summarize my personal reasons again:

• The use of voting bots can deter curators.
• There is enough opinion/energy to take action against voting bots. If not today, then at some point.
• The actual gain from voting bots is not worth risking real curation or even damaging one's profile.
• My goals of “serious and reputable growth” are simply too important to me to slow them down or risk them for pennies.
• If these cents were so important to me, then there are other tools such as arbitrage or price stabilization bots that can also generate these few cents and are more widely seen as legitimate. So the 15 cents are not without alternative - but honestly: what do 10, 15 cents mean to you?

“He who does not honor the penny is not worth the dime.” All right - I agree. But what I honor and cherish even more is my undamaged growth. And if you walk around with your head down looking for the pennies on the ground, you easily miss the values at eye level.

Fassen wir also nochmal meine persönlichen Gründe zusammen:

• Die Benutzung von Voting-Bots kann Kuratoren abschrecken.
• Es gibt ausreichend Meinung/Energie, gegen Voting-Bots vorzugehen. Wenn nicht heute, dann irgendwann.
• Der tatsächliche Gewinn durch Voting-Bots ist es nicht wert, echte Kurationen zu riskieren oder gar das eigene Profil zu beschädigen.
• Meine Ziele "ernsthaftes und seriöses Wachstum" sind mir einfach zu wichtig, um sie für Centbeträge auszubremsen oder zu riskieren.
• Sollten mir diese Centbeträge so wichtig sein, dann gäbe es auch andere Tools wie Arbitrage- oder Preisstabilisierungs-Bots, welche diese paar Cent ebenfalls generieren können und weitläufiger als legitim angesehen werden. Die 15 Cent sind also nicht alternativlos - aber ehrlich: was bedeuten dir 10, 15 Cent?

"Wer den Pfennig nicht ehrt, ist des Talers nicht wert." Alles klar - sehe ich auch so. Was ich aber noch viel mehr ehre und hochhalte, ist mein unbeschadetes Wachstum. Und wer mit dem Kopf nach unten herumläuft, um die Pfennige auf dem Boden zu suchen, verpasst leicht die Werte auf Augenhöhe.

I write “proof” in quotation marks. Whether curators are willing to curate you depends on many factors. But as I said: the use of voting bots reduces the chances of being curated. And the following story could also be a “coincidence”.

I haven't used a voting bot for over a week now and as I'm writing the raw version of this article, a curator comes across an article I published and curates it. And I'm pretty sure that article wouldn't have been curated if I had used a voting bot on it. I can't prove the connection, but I'm personally pretty sure of it because I know the curator's attitude.

And even if it wasn't the highest possible curation in terms of value, this single curation had more value for the blog than several weeks of using voting bots (if we assume the 10, 15 cents in the example above). And I kept my blog “clean”. And the gesture of curation. I try to write quality articles at least 50% of the time - and I see curation of articles as recognition for those efforts. This alone is worth more to me and a greater pleasure than the 15 cents from a voting service.

Und hier noch der oben versprochene "Beweis":

Ich schreibe "Beweis" in Anführungszeichen. Ob Kuratoren willens sind, dich zu kuratieren hängt an vielen Faktoren. Aber wie gesagt: die Nutzung von Voting Bots verringern die Chancen kuratiert zu werden. Und folgende Geschichte könnte auch "Zufall" sein.

Ich nutze seit nun über einer Woche keinen Voting-Bot mehr und während ich die Rohversion dieses Artikels schreibe, trifft ein Kurator auf einen von mir veröffentlichten Artikel und kuratiert ihn. Und ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass dieser Artikel nicht kuratiert worden wäre, hätte ich einen Voting-Bot darauf angesetzt. Ich kann den Zusammenhang nicht beweisen, aber ich persönlich bin mir dessen ziemlich sicher, weil ich die Einstellung des Kurators kenne.

Und auch wenn es jetzt nicht die wertetechnische höchstmögliche Kuration war, hatte diese einzelne Kuration mehr Wert für den Blog als mehrere Wochen Nutzung von Voting-Bots (sofern wir die 10, 15 Cent im obigen Beispiel annehmen). Und ich habe meinen Blog "sauber" gehalten. Und die Geste der Kuration. Ich versuche zumindest zu 50% qualitativ hochwertige Artikel zu schreiben - und eine Kuration von Artikeln sehe ich als Anerkennung für diese Bemühungen. Schon alleine dies ist mir mehr Wert und eine größere Freude, als die 15 Cent durch einen Voting-Service.

In conclusion...

... I would like to say to you: “I wish you every success!” Financial, but more importantly: recognition of your efforts! Try to write high quality and enriching articles as consistently as possible and your efforts will most likely be recognized at some point.

Als Schlusswort...

... möchte ich dir sagen: "Ich wünsche dir viel Erfolg!" Finanziellen, aber viel wichtiger: Anerkennung deiner Bemühungen! Versuche möglichst konstant qualitativ hochwertige und bereichernde Artikel zu schreiben und deine Anstrengungen werden mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit irgendwann wahrgenommen.
