You can practice different combinations of punches and side kicks. Let's start with the basic combination.
First, do one-two straight punch in the fighting stance. Punch with front hand and do follow up punch with rear hand. When you punch with rear hand, twist your leg and move your body forward.
Usually this is how you do one-two straight punch. After doing punch, do a side kick (with front leg). First do it slowly, then you can do it fast.
One thing you will notice, it takes a little more time doing side kick after completing one-two straight punch. It is because when you punch with rear hand, you move your body forward and twist your leg, then move your leg back in the same position to do a side kick.
When you do one-two straight punch and a front kick, you do not need to move your leg back after twisting, you can raise your leg from there and do the front kick. That's why it is pretty fast.
You can do the punch and side kick combination in reverse order. First do a side kick and then do one-two straight punch. When you practice this, always move your hands back to the previous position so that you can protect yourself. Even when you do a side kick, your rear hand should be up to the chin and keep your front hand close facing forward.
Do not let your guards down even when you strike. Most of the time, students make the mistake and let their guards down while punching or kicking.
