Yesterday I was looking for a movie in one of my Hard Drives and I stumbled upon a 9.7 GB compressed archive named Photos.tar.bz2, last modified on 29th of August of 2011. I opened it... and to my surprise, it was the backup of my photos from 2009 to 2011, which I had assumed I had lost.
I was finally able to recover all the photos from my trip to San Francisco in 2010, among others, which had become corrupted over time. Yeah, I got up from my seat and I jumped in excitement. It really felt like winning a lottery! 😁
Most of the photos would be difficult to recreate and some would be really impossible, even if I travelled back to San Francisco some day. Here's an example:
In this photo, taken in June of 2010 at the Civic Center Plaza, you can see the "Three Heads Six Arms" Sculpture, a huge piece done by Shanghai artist Zhang Huan, which had been loaned to San Francisco for a few months.
You can read about it here: Shanghai Surprise: Giant Buddha Sculpture Set to Debut on May 12th in Civic Center
In February of 2011, the statue was returned to the city of Shanghai, in China.
This is one of the files that had became corrupted due to a faulty hard drive... and now, it's back! 😎
I have learned my lesson... and I hope you don't make the same mistake as I did. If you have important files, don't make a backup of them: make 3 or 4 separate backups so they are safe in case something goes wrong!
The same goes to your Blockchain Wallets and Exchange Passwords. Keep them safe... and secure! 😂
