Hi hiveians
I want to add my voice to a very touchy and controversial topic of rape
Recently in my country nigeria, precisely going about a week ago we woke up one morning to the news of the rape and murder of a female student of one of the university in nigeria. One of very many of such incidents in the country and several other parts of the world.
A statistical report by the United Nations compiled from government sources showed that 250,000 cases of rape or attempted rape was recorded annually( covering 65 countries)
It is extimated that 35% of women world wide have experience a form of sexual harassment in thier lifetime.
South Africa has the highest rate of rape in the world of 132.4 incidents per 100,000 people. According to a survey conducted by the South African Medical Research Council, approximately one in four men surveyed admitted to committing rape
I could go on and on and on about several other report on rape and to be honest, it doesn't make a good read.
A DANGEROUS WORLD FOR OUR WOMEN AND GIRLS
Recently in nigeria, a student of the University of Benin 22-year-old Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa was gang-raped and gruesomely murdered.
The victim was beaten and raped on the 13th of May where she went to study and unfortunately she never recovered from her injuries and died 18 days after on the 31st of may.
This is in the wake the news of a 12year old girl who was raped by 11 men.
This adds to the ever increasing rape cases in the country recently. Infact it is so prevelent that not a day goes by that the news of sexual abuse Is not reported in the country.
Rape Is Rape
Going through my twitter page the hashtag #justiceforuwa was trending and in the mist of all that i found some very senseless and idiotic comments trying to justify the fact that a lady was raped and murdered.
Some comments were like the way you are dressed determines if you are going to be raped or not, why would she be where she was at that particular time.
These same guys making such remarks sure do have mothers, they will probably have sisters and might one day also probably have daughters or even sons who might fall victim of an atrocious act like this.
This world is becoming more and more unsafe raise children. No where is safe, no mode of dressing is appropriate and what not to some very demonic individuals who can barely have just a little self control od thier body.
I really hope the nigerian authority find whoever is behind the rape and murder of this innocent lady. May her soul rest in peace
