With Six years as an active Hive user who has traversed many communities and used over 40 Hive dapps, I can give a fair testimonial about growing and thriving projects on Hive. There is no doubt that Ecency is one community/dapp that has evolved from a mere posting interface to a web3 Hub where several possibilities of web3 can be assessed. From the days of EsteemApp to its present unique identification as Ecency after the Steem-Hive fork, Ecency's build led by @good-karma has been a worthy web3 project to identify with.
A quick preview of the 2nd Hive community Town Hall that featured Hive dapp/community founders revealed Ecency as one of the oldest and thriving dapps on Hive and was rightly labeled as the easiest to use Hive frontend and dapp. That didn't come from any Ecency team member but from either of the Townhall meeting moderators. Without a doubt, the track record of Ecency's sustainable growth, providing value to web3 users on Hive has not gone unnoticed. Without a doubt, Ecency: has provided 7 Years of Value to the Web3 Content Creators and Consumers.
Ecency - The web3 App for Noobs
Over the years of my onboarding new users into Hive, the first app I recommend for them to use is Ecency. This is because the decency app is compatible with even lesser editions of Andriod devices and has been the only thriving desktop dapp on Hive. Ecency is the easiest to use Hive frontend and dapp. Just so easier for any noob to navigate. Nothing beats this.
As we all clamor for mass adoption of web3, ease of usage by new users must be prioritized. From login to posting to feed and wallet management, Ecency dapp has been simplified to give any new user a non-scary experience though rooted in web3.
My Favourite Features on Ecency
Over the years of using the Ecency dapp, I'll summarize my favorite features into the following:
1. Visionary Leadership
Every community that would be relevant in the future would be activated by a visionary founder. The leadership of Ecency has been visionary and this is informed by the continuous and robust growth of the dapp when other dapps have folded up. There has always been innovation and reinventing that keeps users coming and retaining using the dapp.
2. Incentivized participation
From day one, I have been sop endeared with Ecency's model of incentivizing users' participation in their community and utilization of the dapp. for me, its the most sustainable on Hive so far. The incentivization of users to participate in the community is another crucial thing to do. We have to remember that digital ownership and citizenship come with data costs for internet access as well as good gadgets with improved features. Incentivizing community participation would help participants cover part of their costs and encourage more participation.
Hive users are endeared to using the Ecency Dapps/frontends because of the added incentives in the form of Ecency points which can be earned from several social activities - posting, comments, reblog, upvotes, login, etc. The daily spin for mobile app users has also been a great source of earning points. Utilizing the points to redeem upvotes is a superb way to retain users. This is because some users who may not enjoy lots of support from other curators can earn at least $1 from their points daily. The Point market is also not affected since there is no direct way of selling or dumping it. Every user MUST have to redeem it by upvotes or gifts to other users.
3. Community Creation and Building
I may not be frequent at redeeming Ecency points for upvotes, but I've used it to reward authors I wish to support but do not have enough voting capacity. My new community will utilize the Ecency points as a major source of reward for posters since I can earn points from delegating Hive Power to Ecency.
Web3Logistics community has a mission to help businesses, organizations, and individuals harness the potential of web3 technologies, including blockchain, decentralized applications (dApps), NFTs, decentralized finance (DeFi), GameFi, and more. A lot of the activities of the community would be on Ecency app since it can support new communities to grow.
My Outlook on Ecency Proposal
After a cursory evaluation of the Ecency proposal, I think it is worthy of the support I gave. Ecency lite, Reals/Shorts, Better filters for more engaging waves/threads, Ecency chat, and Hivesigner Re-implement are great features that will better the entire outlook of Hive. Of great interest is the Ecency chat. I missed the similar feature that started on Partiko app some years back.
I believe that the successful launch of these features would boost the onboarding and retention of users on Hive.
