I won't lie, each time I get close to this abandoned garden of mine, I feel bad and always have the urge to clear off the weeds and start again, but the circumstances surrounding the whole thing just won’t allow me.
The abandonment started when I was losing everything to the pests that were destroying the crops (pepper and tomato plants) there. The pests were chopping off the branches of the plants, and I became very worried because they were already producing flowers. The disturbance distorted their growth, and I said I was going to block the entrance of the place to prevent the pests—if they weren’t the winged ones—from gaining access to the garden. That was the plan until the next thing happened, which was a letter of quit notice from the compound.
Oh yeah, I’m leaving the compound. There’s no way I would have access to the land or the plants again because it’s very possible that the next occupants or the landlord himself would use the space or clear the plants off for other things. This was the biggest reason that made me just let the place be. I didn’t want to spend my time, resources, and also my creative ideas to make the fence, and at the end, not be allowed to use the space in the next three months or so.
By the way, I decided to take a walk into the space two days ago, and I saw a fruit from the pepper plant, and I was marveled. If the place wasn't covered by bush, I'm very sure the plants would have been chopped off on different and many occasions as they were experiencing before. But now, they are no longer disturbed by pests, but by the weeds. The effect of weeds on them is so visible, and I haven’t gotten any need to clear them off because if I do, the problem of the past continues. Also, I’ll be leaving the environment soon.
