Hello Hivers..✌✌
So today we are going to install our water supply and drainage in our hatching pond.
Hatching of catfish Fingerlings is a very intensive project which requires constant supply of water to the pond and constant dispersal of water from the pond.
This is called a flow-through system, which is to ensure several things in the hatching pond which are;
- enough oxygen in the water for the little fishes to take in.
- Ensure there is no build up of ammonia as a result of debris in the water.
- Flushes away any water debris in the hatching pond.
Also the hatching pond is placed in a sloppy manner where the drainage is at the end of the slope and the supply is at the opposite direction , this is to ensure free flow of water.
To start our installations we will need some materials which include;
- Water pips
- Pipe fittings (eg Tee, Elbow, endcap etc
- Water gum
- Saw blade
- Tank etc.
The Tank has to be placed on a height so gravity will play its role in allowing water flow from the tank to the hatching pond.
To achieve that I used some old truck tires to give it a height that would be enough for the water to flow through.
It is important that a bull gauge be in place at the supply and the drainage to ensure that the amount of water going in is equal to the amount of water going out this ensures a good flow-through system.
At the top of the hatching pond the water supply pipe will be perforated with holes to enable the water enter the pond in bits this ensures that oxygen is supplied to the young fish also the drainage pipe is perforated with holes to allow water go out and also not allow the fishes escape from the drainage.
The drainage pipe will later be covered with net to stop the very tiny hatchlings from going out the pond.
Since the hatching pond is going to be outdoors there will be a need to protect the young hatchlings from predators, so for that I will use a pan to cover the hatching pond.
