Whispering palms is one of the tourist and relaxation centers located in the ancient city of Badagry in Lagos, Nigeria. The name was coined from the whispering sounds made by coconut palm plants when a gentle wind blows in their environment. The center is characterized by different species of coconut plants and is about 30 km from the urban area.
The first storey building in Nigeria
From the continuation of my visit to the slave trade museum in Badagry, I proceeded to visit the first storey building built in Nigeria before heading over to whispering palms to see what the place has to offer in terms of tourism.
There is nothing much to the first storey building except that it still standing strong even after hundreds of years of being built by the Christian missioners that imported the Christianity religion into the country. You will think it is a mere coincidence that the same Badary that serves as the point for slave trade also serves as the entry point for Christianity religion. Make out of that whatever you wish.
Whispering palms
From the first storey building, we headed straight to whispering palms, paid the required entrance fee, and went sightseeing to feed our eyes.
The first thing that greeted us is the serene and aesthetic atmosphere provided by ornamental plant species such as bougainvillea, palms and Delonix regia. We proceeded straight to the reception area just to have a feel of what and what services that we can get.
The reception had a mini-museum with cages containing parrots overlooking the area, sprinkling it with some natural beauty.
At the reception, we were told of different services that we can get and they include just sightseeing, boat riding, beach volleyballing, swimming, and a host of other trivial activities I cannot remember. I felt a bit disappointed because I was expecting more. Anyway, it seems the only exciting thing I can get is to go on a journey riding a boat. I had never been in a boat before then anyway. We paid for the boat rides and went sightseeing before heading to the harbour.
After going on the boat ride, there seemed nothing left to be excited for except to see the environment. We got to the swimming pool but none of us was interested in swimming. Hence, we just savour the beauty of the water and the environment.
After touring the entire area and taking the boat ride, we decided to take our leave. In my opinion, the whispering palm is a really cool place to hang out away from the life of the city where one can enjoy and savour the beauty that nature has to offer. For those that do not love partying, perhaps just hanging around the beach would be enough. I also did not check their menu to see the varieties of food on offer. Perhaps the food would be offered something to be excited about. Who knows!
