Being part of the newbie meeting last week was a wise use of my time. I must say I'm glad I took part because I was able to learn a lot, all thanks to those who devoted their time and resources to enlighten newbies like me and I'm glad I get to share this post here who knows someone might gain too from here.
The meeting was to address newbies on issues like plagiarism, engagement, tagging, and all. A very deep explanation was done on all for better understanding. This brings me to answer the following questions for this week task
WHY MUST YOU AVOID PLAGIARISM?
Plagiarism is a foul on hive because it simply representing another man's works or ideas as your own. And here on hive only owned content receive support so to avoid breaking rules plagiarism must be avoided and @starstings01 helped with a tip on how to avoid plagiarism he made mention of having a deep and wider knowledge of whatever you need then representing it with your own words with this plagiarism would be avoided. I took my time digesting what he said and I must say that very thoughtful and would work in avoiding plagiarism.
HOW DO YOU SOURCE AN IMAGE AND WHY?
Sourcing is giving credit to the rightful owner of the image.
Sourcing images is a very important thing to do because not all images are free so to be on the safe side you need to source where it was taken from and this can be done by using the two rectangular brackets [source ] and beside it the circular bracket(link ) the circular bracket is for the link of the image. This is to be done for images you don't own.
WHY SHOULD YOU NOT TAG NUMEROUS PEOPLE ON YOUR POST?
Most hivers do not appreciate being tagged to a post especially those you do not have a close relationship with. It is not advisable to tag them this can bring a downvote. Tagging is to be down with close people and tagging in a community is to be done by posting in the right community and using their tag. This classifies content and gives it more visibility.
some tags help get extra tokens but if the wrong tag is used for the wrong community then this will hinder getting extra tokens.
WHAT IS THE ACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF ARTICLES YOU CAN PUBLISH PER DAY?
For the professionals here it is a matter of choice to them they can always decide that but for a newbie who is just trying to be noticed one per day is advised posting two or three or the same article numerous times might be regarded as plagiarism and might not get the recognition you intended. One step at a time that the motto.
WHAT IS THE IMPORTANT PART OF ENGAGEMENT?
Engagement and hive work in line is like having to eat and drink water in other to get the food digested. To be successful on hive engagement is the key. To get to be known you need to interact, have conversations that bring more visibility, and build a friendship field only then you can be known and successful on the hive. This brings me to @nonsowrites suggestion in a post titled TEN COMMENTS A DAY KEEPS THE BOREDOM AWAY where he gave tips on how engagement can be done and making it a standard for him. so far it has been working for him.
I came across the idea of making 10 comments per day before making a post some time ago, and that has been my standard for engagement.
posting regularly won't give exposure because most people do not read from accounts they are not used to. rather getting their attention through engagement is the solution.
The meeting was endowed with a lot of knowledge I got to understand more about a lot of things like CONTENT CREATION, the use of markdown, what is needed in constructing an article like the title, the first paragraph, header picture, and all.
It was a session with a lot of knowledge to acquire and i'm glad I took part. All thanks to @projectmamabg, @aliento,@starstrings01, and the team in charge of NEWBIE INITIATIVE.
Thank you for making newbies like me a priority.
